In previous titles the Covenant weaponry has always been lacking one thing, a good sniper. Yes, we had the Beam Rifle for a while, and while it worked fairly well, in most cases it still couldn’t match the efficiency of the Spartan Sniper. So in Halo 4 can we expect to see a legitimate Covenant sniper?
I hope so.
shrugs Who knows?
There is a glimpse of a blurred out image in one of the 343i videos that shows a new sniper weapon on a spartans back.
It looks forerunner but could be covie.

Was it the Light Rifle?

That is the Promethean sniper/beam rifle thingy. The man was asking about a proper Covenant sniper.
sniper weapons hardly fit the covenant’s battle pragmatism
I wouldn’t mind seeing both the Beam Rifle and Focus Rifle return, as long as both weapons were tweaked to be more effective. Both had a lot of potential, especially the Focus Rifle, but they weren’t quite as powerful as they could have been.
However, the Focus Rifle has always been extremely effective as a medium-range weapon with long-ranged capabilities, so I could see it being re-purposed for that role rather than that of a sniper.
I like how it looks like there’s arrows on the forerunner weapons. like even they had to have an indicator as to which way the gun fires. Too many accidents happened at forerunner boot camp.

My thoughts exactly. I remember the first time I picked up the Focus Rifle in the campaign and thought “This gun is awesome! I’m gonna wreck multiplayer!” then I picked it up in a MP game and quickly realized that it was nowhere near as effective as I had hoped

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it was not part of the Covenant’s belief in how wars should be fought.
Perhaps it could be likened to how the Elites viewed war and honor? Their structure as a caste in the Covenant remind me of Feudal Japan, where archers were looked down upon because they lacked honor for being so far away from the battle.
The Jackals on the other hand were genetically gifted to use a long range weapon, and they did.

I must not be able to see it. All I can see are the Watcher’s light beams that are picking up grenades, and building light shields.
Is there a beam like with the Covenant beam rifle, or is it wider somehow than the Watcher’s beam?
The Covenant sniper was a beast. To say the Human sniper came close to the short-term killing power of the Beam Rifle is a misunderstanding of the gun. Two shots could be taken at a fraction the time of two human rifle shots. Pace it and you don’t need to unscope since reload is unnecessary.
yeah i would like an other enemy equivalent of the sniper, i dont think the new human sniper looks or works very good, i cant put my finger on it it just dosnt seem team snipers would be fun with this new sniper, i will have to find out to see what its like but i can say imo the design and look of it is terrible.

At 1:28, watch right before the first-person player disengages his Hardlight AA. That’s when the Promethean fires the second time, and you can even see his arm take some kickback/recoil from the second shot.

That is a nice catch, but it also looks like it might just be light rifle from the campaign demo. The beam fired looks very similar, as does the design and length. But at the same time, all of these Promethian weapons look a lot alike

Actually if you look carefully, the weapon at 1:28 has two barrels stacked on top of each other, without the iconic orange light across the barrel that the Light Rifle has. The biggest indicator is the lack of that orange light across the side of the Light Rifle’s barrel, which means that this is a different gun.

Actually the quick two shot burst is what ruins it for me. Yeah, its great to be able to blast off two quick shots like that, but then it overheats and you’re left vulnerable for the same about of time it takes to reload the Sniper. I find it much more convenient to fire off at a steady rate, then reload after four shots, as opposed to being able to only fire off two shots, then over heat and be vulnerable for the same amount of time as a reload. Its really a matter of preference, but in general I think most people feel the same way. What I’m hoping for is Covenant or Promethian weapon that share the same power and fire rate and range as the Sniper Rifle. Then everything would be more even
