I realised that the Covenant Carbine is much more accurate than in Halo 2 or even Halo 3. (In Halo 3 the Carbine has had a lot of spread for a half-automatic weapon).
Also I recognized that the shots are not only green now; they also include some purple colour (similar to the needle-rifle from Halo Reach, one of my favorite weapons during the campaign). So I ask myself: did the Covenant upgraded their Carbine with some stuff of the old needle rifle/or similar?
That would explain the purple stuff in the shot of the Carbine in H4. Also it would explain why the Carbine is now so accurate. May be they added some needler-crystals/minerals in the weapon to make the shot more steady and accurate.
Well, the Carbine is the only weapon that changed so much:
I know the wraiths plasmamortar is now more red, but red plasma is nothing very new for the Covenant; see red plasma guns (Halo ODST, or Halo 2) or the smaller Plasma Mortar in Halo Reach. So the bottom line is that only the Carbine has a significant change in its design and in its properties.
The Plasmastormrifle is a new weapon … so …
So what you think about this theory? - That the Covenant upgraded their Carbine to make it more usable? (Also the reload procedure changed a bit.)
And what you think about the idea that they used needler technology to upgrade the Carbine … it would explain the purple colour in the shots.
I think its possible they may have upgraded their weapons by using better crystals and also I thought the carbine shots were always green. The Red þlasma rifles you see in haLo 2 and halo 3 odst are brute weaþons but they were more powerful but over heated to quickly =)

I wonder how far the brutes are independent from the covenant technology. Some weapons are 100% Covenant; some are 100% Brute … and some are a mix of both - like you said, the red plasma gun.
I hope they bring these space-jerks back they are evil, but in a way still a bit funny. ;p
Not to crash any possible Sherlockian lore fest here but, I’m pretty sure 343i just decided to make the Battle Rifle, Carbine and the Light Rifle equally accurate to balance loadout weapons.

You might be right … but sometimes even an author don’t know every aspect of his story/world. =p
well from what i know the carbine uses radiation not plasma. i dont use it at all really so i have not noticed the purple color in it. also them upgrading that probably what happened considering that made a new plasma rifle too.

Wait the author of this thread or the author of the Halo 4 lore?
You ever heard of so called “artist’s design choices”? You don’t need to explain everything via canon. If we would, the List in Halo 4 would have no end…

I think you just ruined Christmas for many kids over the world by telling them Santa was just a choice lol.
I guess I see much more with my elveneyes than you. Sry to overcharge your eyes :p.
But to be exactly: the Carbine uses now a brightblue/white muzzleflash (in H3 it has had a green/aquamarine/brightblue flamelike muzzleflash). Its mainbeam is still green but around the beam is a purple lightsphere. The purple is bit darker than the magenta of the needler.
A bit like this:
(Weapon)O==–==–==–(Target)
sry to be so exact here, I am just analising one of my new favorite weapons =D

ßrutes are a Bunch of savages I cant imagine these guys going up againts a group of þromethians and Elites I would not know who to pick that would win and I think that ßrutes since they never got along with the elites im sure they are an independent group now than ever and they are at war with the šangheili =)

story wise they brutes were doing very good shortly after the destruction of the covenant. But then they started fighting themselves and got set way back.

Actually your correct as well because I have seen haLo Legends there was a scene when after the covenants destruction the brutes started going back to thier savage ways and started killing each other I remember that now =)
But it is still fun to theorize why these things changed.
I think that ALL the weapons in the past games were created by the covenant and certain weapons were designated as “Brute Weapons”. Based on my understanding of the Brutes as a race, they are too instinctual and un-intelligent to actually achieve these kinds of weapons on their own. Their history does indicate that they had achieved space travel on their own, but they then warred amongst themselves and caused them to lose all technology that they had created and the knowledge necessary to create it again. While they were on the path to evolving back to their glory the covenant found them and introduced them to all of their tech.
With it having been several years since Halo 3 it is extremely likely that they have made upgrades to all of their weaponry causing the carbine to be different. Perhaps adding needler materials to the shots improved the accuracy of the shots and give it its new color as you suggest.

Perhaps a guess is that the ammunition is a different kind of radioactive material? Thus emitting other wavelengths of light?
Seeing as these Covies, or Hand of the Didact, have green lights instead of blue, or what ever they had previously.

… yay, can’t belive to hear words like these from a human …
