New competitive game mode idea: Four Aces

This game mode is a competitive variant of Juggernout. It’s very simple.

Name: Four Aces
Mode: 4vs4 Elimination, 3 lifes avaliable.

The players can be of four levels:

  • Jack: 100% shield
  • Queen: 133% shield
  • King: 166% shield
  • Ace: 200% shield

I know you’re thinking about Texas Hold’em, and in a way it can be used as an analogy. All players start as Jack, with three lifes available. The rank is displayed with an icon (J-Q-R-A) above the player, visible as if it were a power up or power weapon icon.

When you kill an opponent you advance one level (example from Jack to Queen), becoming more resistant (from 100% to 133% shields) and so on, if you keep killing without dying, you become King (166%) and finally Ace (200%).

When you die, you go down one level (example from Ace to King), becoming more vulnerable (from 200% to 166% shields) and so on, if you keep dying without killing, you become Queen (133%) and finally Jack (100%).

When the three lifes are over, you watch the remaining players finish the game. Wins the team that has defeated all opponents.

Strategy & considerations:

Players who make the first kill become stronger, so they will have the instinct to immediately push enemies of lower level to kill. The players who instead started with a death, will tend to play in defense, remaining backward and leaving the fights to the stronger teammates.

The strategy is based on the positioning of the players on the map according to their level. It will be essential to manage the mating between companions. One strategy might be that strong players defend weak teammates by staying close. Another strategy may be that strong companions (a coup of Aces for example) go together to kill all the other enemies. There are endless possibilities. This game mode can also be FFA.

sound to me like a more snowbally FFA mode

Tbh this sounds very unfair and infuriating to experience. Rewarding the better players in the match and punishing the lower-skilled players through handicaps is a surefire way to end up with a dead playlist. Your premise is that you want a dynamic match where one team is constantly either on the attack or the defense, you can achieve this with different rule sets that make the game faster-paced and more fair.

Theres a gametype in halo 5 that was made by the community that did this but wayyy better. Essentially it was 4v4 elimination with the added twist of a 10 second initial respawn, if an entire team was dead at the same time the other team would score. This is essentially the same thing, the team with fewer players alive falls back into defense mode while they wait for their teammates to respawn and etc. As you die your respawn timers extend and if the match is lasting too long it triggers sudden death.

I would say go back to the drawing board with this one, but it’s a cool idea that you could script into Infinite with forge when the time comes
