What do you guys think about the idea of new commendations being implemented into the game to keep players that have hit the max rank (let’s be honest, there’s a lot) working towards something? I’m starting to get the feeling that the game is becoming a bit stale now, especially because some commendations can’t even be achieved. If 343i were to create some new commendations I think it would breathe a bit of life back into the game and perhaps the population would increase a bit. What do you guys think about this and what are some of your ideas for commendations?
Halo 4 is obviously not very receptive to updates. The one time they did add new content, they broke loadouts, some in-game armor pieces, Campaign progress, and achievements. Despite Halo 4’s polish, it’s basically a house of cards.
I say get rid of commendations all together. It’s pretty bad when you get a teammate running around like a clown with his plasma pistol out trying to get kills with it.
Commendations don’t add anything to the game.
I wouldn’t mind. Though I hardly play Halo 4 and when I do, it’s always Campaign or Spartan Ops. So I probably wouldn’t bother doing them.
An online shooter shouldn’t be high populated because of commendation farming, but because of the gameplay experience itself.
Commendations should just be a nice add-on, I’d rather choose the system from reach than h4’s.

Well, if we’re going to go around declaring things worthless and then scrap them completely because of one flaw… Anyone got a stockpile of antimatter bombs? We got a lot of work to do…
I finished all commendations already? I just play what I want I suppose.
Similar to DLC playlist, idk possibly a commendation friendly playlist. Mix of ts/btb maps with specific weapons possibly on same map. I dont know whether this is possible in normal ts/btb mm maps, IMO there vast for secondary weapon commendations. And NO PO. Well, if PO HAS to be then it better be ammo for any/all weapons possible from game loadouts thought NOT bound to game loadouts.

Commendations (and Achievements and Daily Challenges) are supposed to encourage player to try different things. Without it, I’m sure there would be a lot of players who never played anything BUT the Mantis - and others who would not otherwise bother to set foot in the thing.
Yes, there are going to be those players who insist that the only thing Halo should have is PvP and that should only be BR’s and Magnums - preferably without Sprint or RADAR. Oh, and the only objective should be CTF.
I am on the other end of the Spectrum, and like to play all the parts of the game (well, except for Halo 4 Campaign - no commendation incentive and I did not enjoy the Campaign game-play as much as Reach).
Because of Commendations, I got out of the Mantis on Ragnarok and learned how to time that blasted SPLaser. I even got to where I could pick off foot traffic with it. Commendations got me to try all the automatics, and even the Pulse Grenade (which I have never used since, but I TRIED it). The Boltshot Commendation forced me to learn how to “play the big maps small,” like hanging out in the buildings on Complex.
I let my friends talk me into Team Snipers which I am still terrible at (but got a little better) and in exchange they would play King of the Hill. I have left Flood for last, but Commendations are the only reason I will even open that playlist…
So I contend that Commendations DO add to the game…
The problem is that some of them are beyond ridiculous counts:
You mentioned the Plasma Pistol - yes, they added Paintball, but it rarely comes up, and there aren’t all that many kills to go around for the number you have to get. I have been forced to keep a PP as my Secondary to kill AFK’ers and will use it as my finisher if I see someone’s shields are gone.
Thousands of Crawler snipers, when there are only 10 and 12 on TWO maps, and all the rest only have a few - why? You end up having to play the same episode over and over again. I still have 150+ more times and I play frequently!
I hope to get the last few Perfections I need, but I expect that the Mongoose Destroyer (depends on others actions) and Flood Victory (I keep getting matched with Parties and CSR 40’s…) are probably going to be the ones I give up on.
So I contend it is not Commendations fault but rather the numbers.

I think most people try out all the weapons in the sandbox regardless of commendations. I’m sure your teammates appreciated you hanging out in the buildings on complex trying to get boltshot kills. Also you use PP as a finisher, I don’t even know what to say about that. Players shouldn’t have secondary motives during a game, commendation hunters are just as bad as people who only go for kills in objective. Play the game as it was meant to be played.
Perfections are easy to get just vote Ragnarok, use camo, stay in you base all game and grab every single sniper. Your teammates will hate you, but you’ll get that all important commendation.
As for flood victories getting matched with parties doesn’t matter it’s FFA.
I don’t know how commendation hunting is any fun, how does it add to anyone’s enjoyment? What’s the motivation? I don’t get it.
Honestly, what would be the point? Halo 4’s population barely exceeds a maximum of 15 000 players at once these days, would putting in the effort to create new commendations really be worthwhile? New commendations would not bring back any players, unfortunately, I don’t think anything could at this point.
No, better to focus everything on future Halo games rather than work towards improving Halo 4.

Complex + Boltshot - I’m holding down rockets/top lift or the computer room. That forces the other team out in the open more often than not. That helps my team. Also, that’s not the ONLY thing I am doing.
PP - the real reason I run around with one is to stun vehicles, but I since I have it, I will span it if I am chasing someone with their shields down. It’s not a primary strategy, but rather a suggestion on how to get a few more kills.
Commendations - It’s kind of an OCD thing - You fill up all the different blocks. Some people do it for the armor, I just like to complete things. I’m not that great anyway, so it gives me something to shoot for.
Parties in Flood - they refuse to kill each other until last, and they use callouts to tip off where you are. I’ve seen players rush past each other over and over -or- they have an AFK guest they assassinate all game, since they know exactly where he is… They need to make this party size of 1 like in Halo 3…
