New challenges force you into ranked

I used 7, still got me something with “ranked” all the time.

Didn’t know it was a themed week, think swaps will go back to normal next week then?

If swaps only pull another similar challenge with this update, then that makes swaps nearly worthless. 343 messed up if that is the case.

this week’s challenges are almost all ranked based. there is a thing about the HCS tournament so they want everyone to play ranked.

Why are you all so scared of ranked so much? You guys realize you get the same quality of opponents in ranked as you will in social?

Guess I’m not doing the challenges then. I only ever play Ranked anything when the two friends who mostly only touch Ranked ask to play. I really don’t like it in general so guess I have to stick to broken BTB for now

The challenges are once again borked. They were much better last week. They were at a point where I thought they pretty much had it. Now? It’s a mess. Spreading out challenges over 8 different playlists so you have to constantly jump around is crap. Also, you can’t get the bulk of the low-tier challenges in bot modes anymore unless you swap swap swap because they are so spread out. I’m not about to spend a double XP (or buy them) when I don’t know how long the matches will last in a given mode or when even the grey-tier challenges have some form of luck (like being on a winning team in a specific mode.)

WHY is this so hard. Why.

They said they are cutting down on gametype specific challenges, which people had complained about, but instead they made more gametype specific challenges. Yeah, people are gonna be upset.

They did cut down on it. Now it’s complete per playlist mostly. Though it’s true they didn’t completely removed “play x amount of oddball games”

The ranked ones are mostly gametype specific. I used 10 challenge swaps on a ranked challenge until I got one that wasn’t gametype specific. And the ones for Fiesta, FFA, and Tactical Slayer may be “playlist” specific, but they’re specific to playlists with one gametype, so for all intents and purposes they are gametype specific. So no, I don’t feel they’ve cut down on gametype specific challenges.

I don’t mind playing matches for a challenge or two, but when the challenge is to win a ranked match then I feel that is too much. Personally I don’t think there should be any challenges tied to ranked since it pits more casual players (like myself) into a mode that is as far from casual as possible. I can only do so much and while I’m not the worst I dislike being a detriment to my team just to complete a challenge.

Out of all the challenges we’ve had, “play a couple ranked games” is pretty tame. It’s not even asking you to win, just play a few. It’s also asking for some BTB, SWAT, etc. Again, not forcing you to win or play a particular way.

That all being said, challenges should be the secondary way to get XP. I’m still fully on the bandwagon of “give us a regular progression system with XP for wins and personal performance, and a non-battlepass military rank like in 3 and Reach”.

MCC had ranked challenges, so definitely it wasn’t that. In fact: the ranked wins challenges was probably the most ignored challenges, because people hated playing MCC ranked. And that was mostly because MCC ranked was not skill based, but just ranked based. And not the good type of ranked based (everybody as close to the same rank as possible, wich would make sense) but only the team average being close.
This made games being completely one-sided with stronger players complaining about lesser players in their team ruining there match and rank and lesser players complaining that they had no fighting chance. And a lot of stronger players deliberately made alt accounts to stomp lower ranked players, because it lowered the average of the team. This made people hate that playlist and refuse to play ranked.

I even think that the fact that on MCC you not only needed to play, but to win as well is what made a lot of people turned of from ranked. Because they had a realy bad time playing it and they felt they had to play it to complete matches and not from their own choice. That was an extra turn off for people.

Now in Infinite the ranked gameplay feels a bit better so far. But the challenges are worse, because not only do you have to win matches, but also in a curtain gametype, wich make you have to play way more matches then otherwise, will probably only hurt ranked and make people hate that playlist who otherwise wouldn’t mind playing a ranked game now and then. These challenges is exactly what ranked shouldn’t get.

A single challenge like ‘play 3 ranked matches’ is fine. But multiple challenges that demand you win matches, play certain gametypes in ranked ánd the combination of both make people have to play so much ranked matches and create a lot of frustration that it will only make people hate ranked.

Win ranked is bad enough, what about Win Ranked Odd Ball? That’s a nasty one.

Alot of people have the misonception that when they queue up the ranked playlist they’re instantly gonna get matched up with pros. No you’re gonna be playing people just as bad as you who hate ranked just as much as you.

It’s too much of a challenge to win matches? I can’t believe I read that.

Ranked will actually match you more closely with people of similar skill than the social lists will. It’s not like you’re just going to get stomped on by pros all day.

The main problem with MCC is that the only people playing ranked were the ones playing Halo since 2007 (for H3) so they know the spots, power positions, etc. And of course the Smurf ones that is really sad (wasting money to crush people because you are too bad to play with your main account?). I try it as well long time ago and got crushed…

For infinite is different, is is a new game, new maps, new weapons sandbox. It is fair easier because the game tells you the timer for the weapons placements as well as different weapon position. This kind of challenges are made so people start playing ranked, lose the fear of “competitive gaming” and have a better pool of players so the MCC situation doesn’t happen again: only players with years of experience and new ones.

Besides that, I agree that challenges (and overall progression btw) is bad. Personally I got a challenge of “play BTB” but the game mode is broken, I can’t connect to a server. But this complain is baseless, it is just a “play x game”, “win x matches”. We were complaining that they are just selling everything and that nothing was earned. Well weekly items are earned, but now people are complaining about that too?
