While I am looking forward to Castle Map Pack next month, I notice that most of the new maps always involved environment near mountain range or by a valley of mountains. I have yet to see a BT (big team) map involving a vast open plain, hilly landscape.
The closest thing we have to a vast open plain environment with mountain range at a great distance is Sandtrap/Sandbox map.
May I suggest 343/Microsoft Studio to develop a new BT map or two involving a vast open plain, hilly landscape with a very distant mountain range?
I envision a battlefield map involving a vast, grassy and rolling hilly farmland area with a mighty river on one side (with depth) and a high bank/forest area on the other. Maybe with some kind of ancient or hi-tech structure in the middle under a blue sky with rolling clouds?
The great plains of Ukraine could be a perfect inspiration for this. During World War II, -Yoink!- and Soviet troops clashed many times in the open Ukrainian and Russian fields, like the great Battle of Kursk for example.
If 343/MS do this, it would be great!
A huge map with lots of varied terrain like the ones in Battlefield would be interesting to see.
Unfortunately it might all be rendered useless by the DMR’s range, active camo and constant supply of snipers in PODs. On Ragnarok everybody sits back in cover with the DMR and snipes eachother and there is barely any need for map movement.

Map movement is key for every match I’ve participated in Ragnarok, so I consider your argument unsubstantiated.
Long range maps are what Halo 4 are missing in my opinion. Unfortunately, the map designers are way too focused on “spartan versus vehicle” combat rather than “vehicle versus vehicle” combat. Don’t beleive me? In the Castle map pack walkthroughs, just listen to them go on and on about the glory of a spartan taking out a vehicle…

I noticed this with every single walkthrough on every vehicle map in the game. As soon as they mention that it is a vehicle map they immediately tell us how easy it will be to hide from and destroy the vehicles, like that is a point of pride and one of the main design goals.
Ineffective vehicles is practically the only subject that ever gets the announcers excited. Well except for maybe the back stories for the pretty backgrounds.

I like your idea. Think about the map Heavy Metal in Battlefield Bad Company 2. I love that map.
With alot of vehiles, a map like this could work in Halo.
But keep it in mind like a map for Big Team Battle Heavy.
Lets say every team has 2 Tanks, 2 Mantis…and so on.
I love Big Team Battle Heavy on Halo 3 and I miss the variation of gametypes.
Where are that great vehicle fights like in Reach or Halo 3???
(sorry for my bad english)
Ragnarok…
I miss Sandtrap and Standoff…

Very observant…
It seems that Halo 4 maps are cluttered with obstacles through out as a natural feature, not like Standtrap that had long lines of sight on either side and down into the bowl. And then they make the rocky obstacles look like volcanic structures (Meltdown, Vortex, Wreckage…).

I agree, I never see DMR holding anyone back on Ragnarok. That seems to be a myth that people just keep repeating.
As for spartan on vehicle rather than vehicle on vehicle, what do you expect? There are not a lot of vehicles on these maps to begin with, in part because the maps are so small.
