New Ban Update / Crashes in MCC

Recently with the new ban update, I’ve seen a lot of flax towards 343. Especially the amount of players who claim they’re game is consistently crashing.

From my personal experience, I couldn’t even remember the last time my game crashed while loading into a match. Even with a moderate NAT type I’ve always gotten into my matches. Noted though I am playing on a Series X currently but even back on my base Xbox One it’s never happened to me.

But that’s not to say it isn’t happening for you. But if you are constantly crashing, I really don’t want you playing the game and ruining the experience for those who play just fine. Perhaps instead of quitting 6 games in a row and complaining, look into fixing your internet or perhaps getting a faster internet connection.

I don’t personally crash. But 25% of my lobbies have people crash. So yeah, its dumb

If your game is actually crashing (as in the game exits) then I doubt having better internet would help. Halo 4 is really bad for me, I think they have a memory leak somewhere in that game because everytime I play it after some time the game just crashes (I’m on PC). I haven’t played MCC matchmaking in a really long time because I think it is terrible. I don’t recall having disconnect issues (with the MCC of today) except for with the customs browser flight. I have 120 Mb/s down and hosted on East US servers (I live on the East coast) and still had issues where sometimes when loading I would just get kicked back to the menu because my connection got interrupted. I think they have some issues to address in the matter and shouldn’t just shrug it off as you need better internet. I mean, for years they did that with Halo 3’s shot registration issues and said it was just lag.

I’m just speaking for my personal experience.

Indeed. And I was speaking for my own experience too. It’s just that I believe MCC has bigger matchmaking issues and I don’t want to see them swept under the rug like what happened with Halo 3’s shot registration issues for a long time.

Perhaps the issue can also stem from inferior PC’s or base xbox ones, not capable of handling the increased memory?

And I 100% agree Halo3 hit registration was awful. Before they fixed it I avoided that game completely

Well I can’t tell you for sure. Halo isn’t an open sourced game so I can’t nose around it myself. For crashes, I think the issue stems from how MCC is designed. We have code for 6+ games/ engines spanning across 20 years crammed under one title. I wonder how much of that code 343 actually understands. It has to be a nightmare to maintain. I think this is why there’s so many little things broken with MCC and why it takes them forever to fix anything. A memory leak basically happens when a program doesn’t relinqush memory it isn’t using anymore. It just eats up memory until you crash. Some programming languages have automatic memory management where unused memory is automatically freed. Lower level languages like C and C++ require the programmer to do this by hand when you’re done with said memory. I’m a programmer (and hobbyist game dev) and while I didn’t find it hard I know learning explicit memory management was hell for some of my peers. It’s possible there’s leaks that were in the old code and have become exacerbated, noone knew about, or were introduced during a code change. Memory leaks do happen even among software made by big companies with experienced professionals. People make mistakes.

As far as disconnects, I don’t know. It could be some edge networking case they didn’t handle. It could be that the server can’t keep up under certain circumstances for a short period of time. For instance, let’s say that a server has three big team game sessions with 16 people each all starting at once, you’d have 48 players trying to connect at once. Maybe some just don’t get in because the server doesn’t reply in a timely manner (or there’s a bug in the code and the server screws up handling them). I know H2A’s coop campaign had a LOT of disconnect issues when loading. I believe the issue was the connection timeout duration was too short. Basically, if you and I are playing together, you’re on the new Series X and I’m on an og Xbox One, if you host, load before me, and I don’t load in in enough time then I just get kicked and you go on without me.

I’m not even going to pretend like I understand what you just said. But it sounds pretty smart so Ill agree with that !

I created another account to play on upon a crash occurring. I can immediately hop into another game on this smurf account while the ban ticks away on my primary. On a side note, enjoying the allowance of quitting upon half of the team quitting in advance of yourself. Saves a decline in KDA due to an aim in finishing the match.

Was it a 5 minute ban? I can’t see the reason you went through all that effort for a 5 minute ban.

Side note 343 needs to work on a system that prevents smurf accounts from playing the game.

And KDA doesn’t mean anything bro.

Current ban ladder for MCC:
1st offense: 5 minutes
2nd offense: 15 minutes
3rd offense: 30 minutes
4th offense: 60 minutes
5th offense: 180 minutes
6th offense: 16 hours

Fwiw, I applied a name change to a ten year old account that my brother no longer uses upon [his] switching over to PS5. Not sure any implementation of prevention would be able to capture my Smurf Account. Yet, I agree with your point.

My Xbox One X tends to freeze and immediately restart 1:5 games that I play in Precision Social Slayer H3.

Lol. The game’s population is small enough already. What you’re basically saying that if you play on older tech you should be banned for something out of your control.
Crashes happen frequently. If people are able to play other games without this issue then it’s obviously a problem with MCC.
Even if it doesn’t happen to you it can still happen to your teammates as well which creates lopsided games.

I’ve never experienced crashes on my base Xbox one. I honestly don’t think it has to do with older tech but more so with internet connection.

Even still. As of right now if you are constantly crashing into games then of course 343 should address this. But to the majority of players who don’t have these issues, it makes our experience worse when you crash in our game.

Many people on Xbox One consoles have been experiencing full system hard crashes. The only work around at the moment appears to be to disable the new skins, but it is happening.

I’ve received a few responses from the Halo Support site confirming it’s happening to several others and providing the work around, but it has not yet been listed on the open issues which is concerning.

Better isn’t saying much considering how the game released.
Even if you don’t have these issues that doesn’t mean the other players in your game won’t crash. I agree that people leaving was a problem, but this was not the move.

I just came here because my connection was interrupted from a game. MCC acknowledged that it was a connection issue and it STILL banned me. I hate this.
