I really love doing assassinations, but I am always scared that I will get showstopper’ed and killed. I wish there was a way to stop assassinating.
Maybe to assassinate, you need to hold down melee and keep holding down melee for the full length of the assassination. If you let go of your melee button, the assassination will stop, and the player you were assassinating will die as if you had back-smacked them. I think this system would work because it still allows you to assassinate, but you can choose to stop if you initiate an assassination on accident or something.
Nah, I think the risk of assassination is what make sure it so satisfying to do. Also, a cancellation system would effectively end showstoppers, which are similarly satisfying to pull off.
That fear of getting showstopped is supposed to be there. That’s the cost of putting yourself in a temporary situation of vulnerability. Of course, the pay off is a sweet kill animation, so you’ve got to ask yourself if the assassination is worth it.

Exactly! That split second between panic and satisfaction from your assassination is what makes it all worth it! If there was no risk, I don’t think the assassinations would be as fun.
well it’s kinda the point of assassinations, you choose to do something fancy at the risk of being killed, it’s supposed to be a drawback to being a showoff, now maybe something like you explain , but instead of them beeing killed when you cancel you have only taken down their shields, that way its still a drawback to being a showoff, but you have a way to stop if you get attacked, if you can cancel and still get the kill there is now drawback in the system and no risk for choosing to do an assassination.
I agree with you guys. My only problem is that 75% of my assassination initiations are accidental.
Showstoppers would still be in the game (If you kill the enemy without them stopping the assassination, your teammate survives), and I actually think that this will make showstoppers more satisfying. This would make it so players want to not be noticed by the assassinator, so they can kill the enemy and save their teammate. If you just run at the enemy and shoot him randomly, he will stop the animation and your teammate would die. Instead, you would frantically try to snipe the enemy while trying not to hit your teammate, or sneak up on the enemy so he doesn’t notice you.
I also understand the risk reward side of it, but again, most of the time when I assassinate someone it is accidental so I didn’t want to risk the reward.
In my opinion I dont like the idea, because cancelling in mid-assassination to get a beat down is not rewarding, plus it was meant to put you on edge when assassinating another Spartan, to look out for others when going for an assassination.

I know that it wouldn’t be rewarding, and I think that is part of the idea. I also understand that assassinations are meant to put you on edge, so maybe the assassination doesn’t stop instantly so you still probably will die.
