"New and unexpected directions"

Pardon my ignorance of some of the lore aspects, but what has happened with the Insurrectionists?

If that fight is still “active” does anyone think we might fight other Humans in Halo Infinite?

We’ve had the Covenant races fighting each other, Sangheili against Sangheili, why not Human vs Human?

With Cortana holding a gun, which are the Guardians, to the head of all races. With the intent of “Join or die”, I can easily see Outer colonies and so war ravaged populations joining her fight out of fear and necessity. Many of the Insurrectionists may join her.

Though, on the other hand, Insurrectionists don’t like being told what to do. I could see their take on the war as likely as a coin toss. We can either fight them, ally with them or both simultaneously.

I don’t expect them to show up anywhere other than a cutscene or a form of media outside of the game. Saying that… I still have no idea what the game is about.

The recent novel, Halo: Bad Blood, addresses this topic. And does a lot toward bridging Halo 5G to whatever Halo Infinite will be.

The Innies ain’t joining Cortana though. It seems to be playing the same sociological hand as what happened with the Covenant war, the common threat unites Humanity. Temporarily at least.

I actually really look forward to getting my hands on this book.
And some time to read it.

I’ve definitely heard that it picks up a bunch of the post H5 story.

Any other of the books that you would recommend that tie in REALLY well to some of the games? Or fill in crucial gaps?

(I’ve read a few, Cole Protocol, Contact Harvest, one or two others I can’t remember off the top of my head.)

Definitely a good book! After the first couple of chapters I was actually really annoyed as a consumer that they hadn’t animated those scenes into the end of H5G. The start of the book would have ended H5G in a much more sensible way than the clipped ending in the game did.
There are a couple of things about it that didn’t jive for me right away though, and I know that’s partly just because 343i creative license in their expanded and slightly reimagined Halo universe. That’s in reference to the commonality of Forerunner tech/installations known about throughout the galaxy in 343i’s rendition of the Halo universe as opposed to Bungies. Not that it doesn’t work or anything, it just kinda clashes from creative backstory context.
I’m rambling… Good book!

Definitely read: The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, the Kilo-Five trilogy and Legacy of Onyx. That last one, I personally feel, will become relevant in either Halo Infinite or a later game.
You don’t neeeed to read Halo: New Blood, but it will give a lot of context to Bad Blood. But you could go straight to Bad Blood and put the pieces together as you go.

All in all though, I thoroughly enjoy all of the expanded Halo Canon as standalone sci-fi. If you enjoy reading a good sci-fi, I recommend checking the Halo wiki about which order all of the novels are set in and starting at the beginning and working your way through all of them.
It will also give you a ton more context for each generation of Spartans, the political and social outlooks for the UNSC, Innies, Covenant, Forerunner, and all the different races.
And also how truly well expanded and developed the entire universe is.
Just saying that vexes me that they have still failed to make a movie! Halo has a creative foundation richer than Star Wars…

I’ll be sure to get on the reading train once I finish some of this school stuff I’m into.
And I definitely enjoy reading things in chronological order, so I’ll be sure to look them up.

Are you saying that Bad Blood basically answers my thread’s question?
(Without too much spoilers for those of us who haven’t read it yet.)

Correcto!
I won’t spoil the book, but I veeeeery highly doubt we’ll see Human enemies anytime soon, and probably never in mainline games.
It’d work really well in a Spartan Ops instalment kind of game though.
Only it’s not the Insurrection anymore, it’s now; “The Front.”
The book goes a way -in subtle ways- towards restructuring the original kind of enemy structures from the games whilst still advancing the whole Forerunner enemy combatant aspect.
