FireFight was initially introduced to Halo in ODST.
The game was based around teamwork and increasingly difficult survival.
Many players welcomed it as a fun challenge for groups of friends.
The popular gamemode was carried over to Reach.
However, most players felt that it lacked the hardcore survival feeling that Halo 3 ODST offered.
Come Halo 4, FireFight was removed and, in a way, replaced by Spartan Ops.
This was an attempt to recreate the theme of FireFight without the repetitive gameplay.
But most agree that Spartan Ops was repetitive.
Currently, nobody knows if Spartan Ops or FireFight will appear in the next Halo title.
It could be one or the other, both, or neither.
But for the sake of simplicity, we’ll just assume FireFight will be available in Halo Xbox One.
The following are my ideas for a new and improved, FireFight experience.
First off, FireFight needs to give the player a sense of excitement, with a touch of desperation.
Players’ shared number of lives, as well as ammunition, should be limited.
Useful weapons should be immediately available, but nothing too useful.
In both ODST and Reach, preset loadout (s) were given to the player.
I feel that in FireFight 3.0, Custom Loadouts would be a better option.
This would, of course, include a progression system.
Initially, only the Assault Rifle would be available to players, but by surviving rounds, players would move up the ranks, unlocking new weapons, abilities, and more!
However, only UNSC weaponry and gear would be available to your Spartan in FireFight.
In addition to unlocking items for your Spartan, you could also unlock items for your Elite and squad.
That’s right, squad!
As you play as an Elite and kill Spartans in FireFight, you’ll unlock items not only for your Elite, but also for your squad.
Now understand this, you can’t choose which units are in your squad, that is dependent upon the appropriate units set for the current wave.
What you can do however, is equip them with certain weapons and abilities depending on the unit.
For example, I could have all my Grunts spawn with Needlers, but as the game progresses, those Grunts will be replaced with Jackals who will have whatever upgrades and weapons you’ve assigned to Jackals specifically.
The same goes for Elites and whatever else.
Of course, certain units such as Hunters or Drones would not be available for you to lead in your squad.
Also, an idea that I think could work would be to allow players to call in Ordnance Drops, but that could affect the team-based survival theme.
Of course, if implemented, a very large amount of points would be necessary to earn ordnance and would require more and more points for each Ordnance Drop called in.
So guys, tell me what you think and feel free to add on to this post.
For instance, what type of upgrades might you like?
Elites are the only ones who can use Armor Abilities, which take the place of upgrades available to Grunts and Jackals.
Also, if I mispelled or made any mistakes, please let me know.
As long as SpOps returns also, I’m all for the return of Firefight

Worked well in Custom Edition firefight maps, could work well as officially supported. I like this idea.

sheds tear of elation Elites get to play a role again, that’d be too cool.

Shouldn’t be randomized drops like in Multiplayer. Either we should be able to pick (i.e. personal ordnance) or it should be based on the current and/or next encounter. Crowd control (rockets, fuel rod gun, concussion rifle), skirmish (shotgun, sword), etc.
OP: I absolutely agree that Firefight should give that feeling of desperation. Limited lives for the online team is a must. Not too sure about the unlocking weapons thing - surely taking weapons off the corpses of your enemies effectively does this already? - Maybe I misunderstood your point. Playing as an Elite (or Promethian?) for sure.
Firefight solo (a la Reach)-not online- has so much replayability value with all the customisation options - these should be brought back and expanded upon. (It would have been nice to be able to specify the successive wave opponents for example - want only Elites/Battlewagons - you got it!)
Spartan Ops was such a great idea and I don’t think it should be abandoned.
(For many of us) It lagged too much co-op - I guess dedicated servers will fix this problem. And the unlimited lives just made it a grind for me. It would have been great if you only had one life. Just like life. Then the different difficulty levels would really sort the wheat from the chaff.
“Sorry to let you down guys -Koff - Koff…”
While I like your idea Op I have to say you literally just planned out what the new COD game has. Pretty much right down to the T.
I personally am not ready to give up on Sops just yet. Some one in another post mentioned an idea about bring back FF but not only having it be a normal ODST survival game but also having objectives like famous battle where spartans have died, i.e. you have to hold an spacedock against a covvie horde so people can escape. that to me sounds like a hell of alot more fun than what we got stuck with in REACH

Yeah, I read the topic.
A lot of good ideas in there.
I actually formed this idea a few weeks ago when I posted on the Forums:
“I’ve got plenty of great ideas”.
I watched the Ghosts MP Reveal and got really excited because it is, as you said, pretty much exactly what I was looking for in FireFight.
While I’d much rather have it in Halo, it’ll be fun in Ghosts as well.
I would love if Firefight becomes a gametype instead of a game mode so you can forge its maps, and also if UNSC people are allowed to be spawned to actually help you each wave (not like the ODST’s from the Anniversary map that only spawn once to keep standing there and get killed at the first 2 waves…) and that they are as hard to kill as the covenant troops so the game is more balanced and interesting when you play it with friends on the other team (Thing that I guess anyone does now since the Reach Beta).
