New and Classic Halo can coexist in Infinite.

Below you’ll see the modifications I made to the vanilla game and gameplay across all 4 flight maps. I tried to play as authentically as possible while also exploring all the routes players would take.

This post isn’t supposed to sow further “division” amongst the community nor bash those who like all the new movement mechanics in Halo. However I am hoping it shows two things, the efficacy of sprint/slide/clamber in Infinite and also give fans of the classic Halo Gameplay maybe something to look forward to.
I used the custom games glitch and upon going through the game mode settings (which are incredibly robust) was able to make a more classic styled Halo. It’s not perfect and needs a bit of tweaking but this iteration was the closest I had gotten to gameplay similar to the original trilogy.
One thing I hope 343 changes is the ability to change the modifiers by increments of 5 instead of 10. I think Jump Height would benefit greatly by being 115% instead of 120%.

A few things to note:
• The base speed I’m moving around the map is about ~5% faster than sprint speed. I was able to figure that out by comparing a “race” I had with with 2 xbox’s. One with the modified game mode and the other running vanilla.
• I tested all opportunities (that I could find) where clamber I necessary and could easily crouch jump all of them.
• It may seem like I’m zooming around the map, that’s because my FOV is maxed at 120.

I think it would greatly benefit the community if 343 at least had 1 or 2 (Slayer/Objective) permanent classic playlists either at launch or announced would be coming in the future as a way to ensure all corners of the fan base are catered to. With the game being free to play I doubt population would be an issue in this regard.

Yes.

Yes indeed.

I wish this was how it actually was. All they had to do was make base movement speed a bit faster and get rid of sprint. Clamber is my most hated mechanic from newer halo games. It doesn’t allow you to get to higher places, it just means the jump height is lower.

Im unsure if this would be popular enough to warrant a permanent playlist. Interestingly enough, after seeing the Thruster equipment leaked footage I began to think how easy it would be to turn Halo Infinite into Halo 5 with custom settings. I KNOW that wouldnt be popular enough to be permanent, but I think if they did a rotation in matchmaking only turning it on during certain dates, it would funnel those that want it into a healthy population. They could do the same for these classic settings. It is a Live game after all, and Live games often do those sorts of things.

It took me a moment to realize, that the repulsor is a weaker version of Spartan Charge that is only lethal when a player’s shields are down. Thrust pack has been buffed up from the previous iteration in Halo 5 and is also equipment. It’s nice to see that 343 Industries kept both features but made them less of a dependency in the overall player’s experience.

Came to toss some love behind a higher jump height.

While I’m loving Halo Infinite, it’s hard not to get frustrated when you have to mantle on objects that in older Halo games you would have just been able to jump on top of. Hadn’t noticed it in Slayer, but finally playing CTF I got a feel for how frustrating it is to die just cause I needed to climb out of a deadend.

It really plays very differently to spartan charge though. You’re able to reflect plasma and grenades as well as propel yourself really high with it and cause vehicles to go flying.

True. They’ve evolved it, naturally, but in essence both thruster pack and Spartan Charge are just now two equipment pieces, offering more versatility in the process. This is what should’ve been in Halo 5 if it had properly employed equipment. Previously, Spartan Charge would’ve only effected players and vehicles, with lethal results for almost every player encounter. Now it only deals lethal blows if a player is hit against a wall hard enough. Vehicles are now impacted greater and the option to deflect certain projectiles has come to be.
