New Alternative to Grenades

Wouldn’t it be something else to have the Armor Restraint used by Locke in the campaign? I’m talking about the little donut looking bugger that he attempts to use on Chief but ultimately gets caught under the effects of. This could be an interesting Req.

Basically, the Armor Restraint would act in place of your grenade (or rather a fourth new grenade in addition to drag, sticky and splinter). You’d throw it at the enemy and you better have a DAMN good arm, because if you miss, it has no effect. However, if you manage to land the Armor Restraint like a plasma grenade, the enemy will be locked up and lose the ability to move for roughly three seconds or so. Maybe they’ll also gain 1.5% damage resistance while locked up too. It can also EMP vehicles.

This would be such a fun new addition to the sandbox. Have any suggestions?

That sounds like a great idea. I think most will scuff this idea away because of “balance issues”. That’s all that matters nowadays. Sure, balance is important, but man, it restricts so much. In Halo 3 it was fun being able to camp with a shotgun somewhere and see others try to get you, lol.

Anywho, this armor restraint grenade sounds like mad fun to me! Hopelessly seeing your enemies shiver in fear knowing they can’t deal damage to you, huehue.

Do you realize how annoying that would be?

Not if it’s rarely put in arena and like a Level 7 REQ in Warzone. How OP is Nornfang? It’s ridiculous, but it’s not annoying because you don’t encounter it that much. Armor Restraints would be similar. Not to mention how difficult it could be to land it on someone’s armor while they’re dancing around and strafing.

I have no idea what a Nornfang is. Plus i would prefer a power drain instead of a splinter

It’s the 1hk anywhere on the body sniper rifle. Linda’s sniper rifle.

OP, I half support this idea. It would be wicked fun for WarZone but I don’t think it belongs in the arena. So I would love to see it in game  though I imagine canonically there aren’t many of them as Lockes 4 Spartan team was tasked with fighting a 4 Spartan team and only given one Spartan diasabler lol

So many fun little niche uses for it too! You see an enemy running ahead of you for that SPNKR that just spawned? Luckily you picked up the one Armor Restraint that spawns on the map. Stop them dead in their tracks, inches away from that SPNKR, walk up, grab it, and have your foe watch as you swipe the sweet scent of rockets right from under their nose. (Only to kill them with it too of course, to add injury to insult).

And I bet people could come up with some fun custom games with it as well.

I can see it in a freeze tag kinda game mode in action sack or something

This is not a good idea. The reason is: There’s no counterplay to it.

You must always consider two things when designing a weapon or a game feature. “Is it just as fun to play against as it is to use?”

If not, you need to rework it, and if unworkable (like something that makes you totally helpless) then it simply should not be added.

That said, I’d like a rock for a grenade. Just a rock or something I can throw at people.

Okay, how about this, a teammate nearby can disable it by standing near a frozen teammate and holding X when prompted. Some things in Halo 5 don’t have a direct counter but still remain unchanged. Landing a plasma stick results in IMMEDIATE death, so if you think about it, landing one of these Restraints isn’t even as effective as a plasma, which are fairly common, as you still have a chance.

While I think it could be a fun tool to use, I think we’re better off without it because of the balancing issues that would come along with it.

Then tell me this: What good is it against any enemy besides Spartans?

It can freeze up any enemy with shields or robotics (Prometheans) and disarm a Jackal’s shield. Obviously it wouldn’t be all that useful in Firefight or against bosses, but neither are some REQ weapons such as Whispered Truth, which is clearly catering towards Spartan denial.

I think this would be cool. I think SillyFoal562830 nailed it with the Freeze Tag suggestion.

i could see people resraining the enemy and not killing them just tbagging them or pushing them off a cliff.

…I still don’t like it. The counterplay simply doesn’t exist.

I don’t want to argue, I’m more intrigued. What would you say is the counterplay to plasma grenades then?

Honestly that would be a fantastic way to go, but I don’t think it would be active long enough to push them off a cliff.
