New 'All-in-One' Rifle Idea.

How would you like a rifle in Halo 4 with adjustable firing functions for different gameplay scenarios?

In more detail, my idea is to have a versitle rifle with 3 firing functions aswell as a specific scope for each function, automatic, three-burst fire, and semi automatic. Each different function would have different ranges of efficency.

Automatic-No scope, very effiective at short range, high bullet spread, 12 bullets to kill, 8 bullets to drop shield and 4 bullets to kill, 20 bullet magazine, not headshot capable

3-Burst-2x scope, very effective at medium range, accurate bullet spread but not hitscan, 4 bursts to kill, 3 bursts to take out shield, 1 burts ti head to kill, 20 bullet magazine, headshot capable

Semi-Automatic-4x scope, very effective at long range, very accurate bullet spread hitscan, 6 shots to kill, 5 bullets to take out shields, 1 headshot to kill, headshot capable,15 round magazine, higher cailiber ammunition, (NOTE: Fires faster than DMR from Reach)

Basically three seperate firing functions in one rifle.

Note that this idea is open to change. Any suggestions or concerns would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, that rumor started because so many people somehow mistook MC reloading the grenade pistol in the trailer as “OMG attaching silencer weapon mods!!!Lololol!!!1”

But I think it’s a good idea and time for Halo 4, evolution or revolution. We need changes, but thank you 343, No non-fully-testing AL idea anymore.

I don’t want one ALL purpose rifle. I’d like for the br to be good at med range and good at far range if you’re really skilled (like halo 3.) I’d like for the AR to be a monster up close, same as the shotgun. The pistol needs to be accurate, but not a powerhouse. Sniper, naturally great for long range. Plasma based weapons need to be tools for tearing shields off quick. I’d like for the covie plasma AR to FINALLY see a lot of use. Making one gun an all purpose tool makes having a variety, pointless. The more guns, the more variety, the longer the game’s legs will be.

Essentially finally fulfilling the idea of a weapon that can be effective at any range, the very weapon Bungie was trying not to create? I’d say no. Every weapon needs to fit a niche, not several.

Can I just have my Republic Commando 2 please? I get my all-in-1 and so much more with that game.

Meh, I think it’s better when weapons have their own characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses that make them unique for certain situations, which is the fun in Halo- you can only have 2 weapons, but there’s so many that have such a wide range of capabilities.

no bad idea,but you could play halo with just this weapon.its a BR a Snipe and a Rocket in One weapon,totally overpowered and not really tactical.

That would make it way too useful though. With that weapon what would be the point in picking up anything other than that and a rocket launcher or sniper? Though I still do want to see the BR from the Halo 2 demo. 3 round burst when un-scoped, semi auto when scoped.

I’ve heard there is some evidence of this type of weapon modifying design system existing in the initial teaser trailer. Most people talk about that trailer showing off a “new grenade pistol.” Apparently if you watch the trailer frame by frame, you can actually see it’s just the standard M6G pistol with some sort of “modifier” attached to it.

I can’t confirm this, but that’s what some people are saying.

I can’t really get behind this for a few of reasons.

  1. Apparently people don’t like a one weapon game, they like to variety. You put all those functions into a gun then you get this. “That Gun” is OP it’s all people ever use, there’s no reason to use anything else.

  2. Originally the BR from Halo 2 Alpha had both firing speeds. 3 burst for unzoomed and single shot for zoomed. This idea was then dismissed and we wound up with the 3 burst BR. Which in my opinion was just fine.

  3. The zoom levels your proposing are a little drastic. You do realize the the BR and the DMR only have 2.5x zoom and are still capable of cross map shooting. 4x zoom would be a little to much.

I just believe that this idea wouldn’t work out so well.

I love you for referencing the “Deece”, I would also love you more if you are referencing the weapon because of Republic Commando’s…

Im not trying to be rude, but thats a horrible idea. It would be waaaay too overpowered.
It might be fun to have it in the campaign, but it would ruin the weapon balance in multiplayer.
With your idea you please every one in the BR vs DMR discussion, but dont forget that there are other weapons in the game too.
