I’m 62 years old and have finished all of the Campaigns on Normal (Except Reach on Heroic and 5). I think I could finish all of the Campaigns on Heroic but Legendary is out of the question.
I want to start playing multiplayer but don’t know much about it.
Do they have matches for total noobs who aren’t great?
What Maps are people playing?
I’d appreciate any suggestions or help someone could give me to get started.
Thanks
I cant speak for halo 5 as ive only dipped my toe in and am just finding my feet, however ive played all the previous games and recently MCC at length.
First off multiplayer can be tough, I would suggest loading up a few of the multiplayer maps in custom so you can learn the layout/weapon placements. never go in blind. However I believe you cannot do this with the warzone maps at the moment. Try and discover what type of player you are. aggressive or cautious or even a mix of both, when online stick to your team mates they provide clues to objectives, and also there is a degree of safety in numbers,(not too close mind). There is no shame in playing conservative and hanging on the outskirts of a battle as it will at least allow you to get a feel of the games tempo and if the opponents are fading or rallying and the aggressive/defence play style you will adopt.
join a clan/group , there are plenty willing to help, find what weapons work for you and also dont neglect vehicles they can offer you some confidence kills and provide valuable support, one person in one vehicle can tie up an entire team, which makes you an asset.
Enjoy it, i have to admit im wanting BTB big time at the mo its always been my ‘thing’ so ive struggled to find my feet , but its slowly coming together. (snail pace slow)
you will get thumped every so often , we all do to begin with. keep the play style simple. use cover.support team mates. look to flank ,too many still follow each other into head on charges. be a smart player.
good luck enjoy , you will be in headshot heaven soon enough…
War zone would be a good way to get the feel of things without being slaughtered. There is a lot of action going on in war zone so you can go about what you want without being noticed.
Thanks for replying guys.
willszenith2-when you say load up some maps in custom are you talking about Halo 5? Is custom a section or where is it? Also, can you play by yourself to learn a map or do you always have to have a team? What are the most popular MCC maps? It looks like from Frosty Heptagon’s reply that you can play Warzone now. Is that true and would that be better than or just in addition to the custom maps?
It would really be nice to get familiar with a map before starting a team game but if I have to just dive right in, so be it. I’m just a little apprehensive since I’ve never done it before and have no idea what I’m doing or if there are other people out there in my situation to play with.
Thanks
@OP
You can find the custom option in the multiplayer menu , you essentially will be starting a game type with just yourself on a selected map, but with no other players (so empty) but i believe only arena maps are avaliable, I dont think you can load an empty warzone map as of yet, so you have to jump into that one blind.
Im sure a few of us on the forums would be more then happy to show you the ropes online, there are some great players that will allow you to tag along ( in a non human shield sniper bait way…)
You will run into uber competitive players, some classy decent players that are worth a GG nod, and idiots. Dont be disheartened, jumping in now is a good time as many established halo players are still getting to grips with H5 so the playing field is somewhat balanced(ish)
warzone is a good place to start, stick with your team and if you get isolated head to the nearest base which is displayed the screen. Im uk based and unsure of your loclae but your more then welcome to jump in with myself , and there are plenty of groups thatll take you in and help out

Hey brother, I think Warzone is a great bet for casual gamers looking to get into Multiplayer. Because of the wide open large maps and the 12 v 12 environment, I always feel as though players of all skill ranges can succeed.
We have a lady in her mid fifties in our Spartan company, Spartan Elites, so if you want to join up with us, I can send you a company invite.
DrFriskyBeard
That sounds like a good start. What time do you guys usually play? I’m retired so I can play pretty much anytime. How does the Invite thing work? I have to set up my Astro A50 and make sure MP works right so I won’t be ready to play for at least a few days. I see you’re Spartan Elites. Should I just click on Request To Join when I’m ready?
Thanks
I’m also just finding my feet in Halo MP, but what I will say that is after scouring these forums I found some fantastic advice and tips from more experienced players, especially concerning Arena MP. There are plenty folks here willing to help out, but joining a company is some of the best advice I’ve seen anywhere. Finding like minded people to play with can all the difference.
How can you tell a company has “like-minded” people?
How do you find Companies?
After a few online matches the ranking system in Halo 5 should place you in games with similar skilled players automatically also.
