When I started playing halo 5 I never got the master chief helmet

Although if you’re referring to Mark VI you need the corresponding achievements from the MCC first.

More specifically, you need to beat any campaign mission to get the regular Mark VI and you need to beat the first mission of Halo 2 to get the scarred variant.

To add even more clarification, the first real mission of Halo 2 is Cairo Station, which is third on the mission list. The first 2 are cutscenes.

And for EVEN MORE clarification, the two achievements are called “Your Journey Begins” (for Mark VI [GEN1]) and “Cairo Station” (for Mark VI [GEN1] Scarred), respectively.
