Neutral Flag, new gametype

The new bulletin shows us some changes for the Capture the Flag playlist which is my favourite playlist since day 1.

After 1886 games I played of it 343 finally shows us a new gametype called neutral flag.
In this gametype you have a neutral Flag in a neutral middle point of the map. Both Teams have to bring it back to their own base to win the game.

What do you think of this new Gametype?

For me it sounds really interesting. Brings me the hope back that they maybe could also make a 1 Flag gametype. I will play it a lot because CTF is me and my teams favourite playlist. Really excited how it will play against another good team. Im a little bit sceptic how it will work, cause once your team is down by 2-3 players I think its really hard to stop the enemy flag carrier because you spawn in your own base and they spawn in their base and can protect it easier. Top mid controll will be the key to win.

How many caps will you need to win? 3, 5, or even more?

I am also really happy to hear that they removed meltdown and abandon. I played like 3 games on CTF meltdown cause I dont like the map and even the big map fans in this playlist also seem to not like it.

Abandon is a cool map but it dont work competitive as I had to see the hard way more than once. The blue team has a huge advantage over the red team cause they have tons of cover when they reach and bring back the flag while the red team has to touch the blue flag in theyr open spawn area. However, the map is gone now and I hope they bring back a symmetrical little competitive map. (maybe Onyx?)

I also hope they get rid of Settler and Ragnarok.

The only thing that I dont like about the whole thing is the maps that Neutral Flag plays on.
We will never see Skyline and Monolith. Pitfall will come up more but also rare. I dont like Ragnarok and Exile so maybe I wont play that game type that much…

I’m kinda frustrated that they added in Neutral Flag when One Flag is undeniably more popular and hasn’t been added yet. -_-

More variety in the CTF playlist is good though.

Both Neutral Flag and One Flag should’ve been in the game from the start. When you look at all the maps in Forge, you clearly see enough Flag Stands set up for Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow Team, as well as a Neutral Flag Stand. Then, you have clear asymmetric maps like Abandon that would be used to play One-Flag, but 2-Flag was chosen over this.

It’s not a clear-cut choice. The gametype in past Halo’s supported all versions (Neutral, Multi, One-Side) within the same gametype. While Halo 4 did only support Multi, there are remnants in the default gametype that suggest they had Neutral somewhat supported, but wasn’t finished. I’m assuming they may have an updated CTF gametype that supports Neutral and Multi, but in the future there will be an official one that supports all 3. Realistically, adding support for 1-Flag would be easiest since we already have Multi, and would only need a few conditions and actions scripted in to keep Blue Team’s flag from spawning.
