Starting Halo Wars II: After the companies’ logo: I get a black screen with music and game and ingame cursor. ==> Ok that could be due to the day one patch. As mentioned in the patch notes.
When I get to the title screen. I get a massage with “Downloading new Server data.” But then I always get the message "Network Error. “Error with downloading data. Do you want to try downloading again?”
I click yes, but nothing happens. I instantly get the same message
5, When I click no, I get back to the title screen. There I have the message: “Press a button to start the game”. I press, I click, I do everything. Nothing happens. Only when I log out my profile and relog it, the game responds to my click to get to the main menu. Thats akward…
Sometimes I get the message “Get Sgt. XYZ (dont know the same)”. I can press “Get him now!” or “No, thanks”. When I click “Get him now” I get the Network error mentioned above. If I click “No, thanks” I get to the title screen with the same problem mentioned above.
From the main menu I can start the campaign. I can also start a online play session but the game cant find other players. Its just searching and nothing happens.
Sorry for the eventually bad translations of the error message. I play with the German clients and don’t know the excat English terms.
I bought the ultimate version. 89 € (~85 $) for Windows 10 and its really sad that I can’t play the “full game” (online).
BTW: Online Forums and support are a pure desaster with no dedicated support forum and naive phone support. I’m disappointed.
I tried to reach the MS support via phone: They told me: “It is normal that the game isnt running very well. With the start of a new game, it is always like that”
Wow! Really? MS or 343? Do you really want to tell me that 75 % of the game ACTUALLY NOT WORIKING IS NORMAL? That phone call made my day in very negative manner!
Hello. I exactly have the same Problem, too. In the xbox app the connection is ok. I turned off all firewalls and opened the 3 Ports like in the discription in the faq.
I have the same issue (see my posts about it recently). I installed in on my laptop and it ran fine! So I reset my desktop (this involves a reinstall of windows and a removal of all apps) - but that didn’t work!!

Sometimes having an issue when connection to validation is a more common thing than you think. With the release of the several games over the windows store it has become an even more common problem, anyone who has played on an Xbox has had an issue that comes up where their NAT connectivity has been from 1-3 stages: Open, Limited, Blocked. From what I know Toredo is the validation between your PC and the validation server. Now with it being on a PC platform other variables can come into place, Hopefully it’s just this. To check the issue you first want to go into your Xbox APP on windows 10 and go to settings>Network. From there it will already start the process. If it does show as being blocked, or limited, try the step below.
As far as being able to open ports I do not know and you’ll need to look that up on your own, but on very rare occasions you do need to open some ports in order for it to work properly. I will try to find those if able and post back.
Another thing you want to make sure that is working are certain services on your computer that could also conflict with connectivity. To open services go to your Start menu (Cortana search bar), And type in services. Open this and you need to find Xbox Live Auth Manager, Xbox Live Networking Service, And IKE and AuthIP IP sec Keying Modules. These three services are usually a trigger start on windows ten, however you can set these to start automatically if you wish. To do this you need to go to each service respectively, Right click>Properties>Start-up>Automatic>Apply. They should auto start, if not, simply click the Start and see if that fixes the issue aswell.
Please quote my comment so I get a prompt and can check back in on this.

Hi,
the network test in the xbox was positive ==> no connection error or blocked things; NAT-Type is now open after opening the ports according to the W10 support website for malfunctioning NAT-Types
All services you mentioned are in automatic mode and running.
Same error after starting the game. It still cant download game data and online play is not possible… POTUS: “So Sad”

Alright so the next step for you to try is the Windows store troubleshooter:
Now if your cache is damaged and it can’t fix it, you WILL have to contact microsoft support to fix this issue through a remote view of your PC, from what knowledge I know. Couldn’t find anything online about it.
If all else fails read my info of all information I have collected on another post of mine:

Totally, I agree, it is a new game and issues are always going to be a thing…That’s never going to change as technology progresses, however it being entirely unplayable, my issue, is uncalled for. Game drops, disconnects, that’s fine. I understand that, but to have the app not even launch is entirely unacceptable.
