Netcode, DeSync, and Lag Issues

Also, I drove a hog off a cliff three times today. It was the same hog, three times, then I got thrown out of the match.

I’ve only done it twice and in seperate games, it’s not my fault I don’t do it on purpose ,but i can’t turn when the game stutters or lagaports me off the cliff I shouldn’t have to adapt to lag as well as gameplay… lag is too inconsistent to predict.

I also had a game where my warthog flipped and then slipped into a death hole… I could do nothing it just sliped in there like it was a sarlacc pit pulling the warthog in.

It was empty. But playing like this is virtually unplayable at times.

I had the opposite experience last night!
The game play was completely different to what I have experienced since the Beta launched. For me and my mates (all uk based) who i normally play in a fireteam with, it felt like there has been some back end balancing? we went from normally losing most of our games to winning 10+ games in a row, teams we came up against had diamond level players in too! (we are mainly gold level).
I had an overkill in one game last night too.
I’m not convinced the latency data (xbox) displayed relates accurately to gameplay latency, when you are experiencing server lag/desync.
We had a game (at the start of our gaming session) where one chap joined us who was from the US (gameplay chat) so we are obviously being/been matched with US players. If games we played have been matching us with mostly US based players then we have been a massive disadvantage depending on the location of the host servers etc.
Anyone else experience the same? Has there been some back end tuning in the last few days in readiness of the full game launch?

I think you were right. But what was odd is I (East Coast NA) was thrown into a Asia and Far East Europe game…Had 200 ping. Absolutely unplayable. Basically hid the second half of Slayer.

I kept having times where I killed people with the SR and they’d die a full second later. MP is basically unplayable atm, because I’m getting killed around corners and animations won’t play for some enemies. I was killed by a player using a hammer that stood still looking away from me.

Absolutely; I believe the low server tick rate is still to blame, along with poor ability to choose strong servers. Especially when I join mid-game, I get lots of network problems.

Yeah, I also noticed it as well. Funny thing is I usually have a 25ping to the servers here in Montreal, but I get weird lags. My box is wired no wifi. The video below sums up pretty much my experience so far.

yes sadly. A lot of matches are on +100 ping servers. Desync and hit registration is really bad in that matches.

I hope 343i fix that.

to be fair, a lot of people on spectrum still cant even play MCC because it somehow crashes the entire router. so part of me is not surprised here. only reason i can is i replaced the 3rd router spectrum gave me, with an old apple airport extreme.

This last week for whatever reason has been terrible. I’ll be chugging along at like 20ms ping, then die from one punch to the face. I literally killed someone in a ranked match the other day with shield remaining, started running away, and half a second later I randomly died and it said they killed me. It’s very frustrating.

Came here hoping I wasn’t the only one. Aside from all of the issues I’m seeing people talk about here, I also lost rank.

Grinded for a couple hours to go from Diamond 2 to Diamond 3. The I put the controller down for a couple hours. I came back and my rank was exactly where it was when I started playing earlier today. Major desync issues, I think.

Frankly, ranked is not worth playing until these issues are resolved.

Idk, maybe people are playing on wi-fi and there’s packet loss…

I noticed lag after 3 games in. It feels like the old games where a player would host a lobby and they’re on the other coast…or don’t have great internet for hosting.

Funny enough someone confirmed on Reddit that they are 60 tick. There are bigger underlying issues imo

I play other online games and I don’t get the kinda crap i do on Infinite.

I have heard that, but frankly I just don’t see it. If it is ā€œ60ā€ then it’s not actually updating on every tick. There’s too much evidence that the game doesn’t update correctly; hit registration is off, hits land through walls, aiming feels poor, clear misses still hit the target, and there’s severe desync. It all screams tick updates aren’t happening.

It’s 60 according to someone who tested. Can prob find it on Reddit. But agree something doesn’t make sense. I believe there may be a larger problem such as netcode or who knows. I’m not am engineer or developer so I couldn’t say.

Over the last week or so (probably because a lot of people are online from Christmas) the desync issues are out of control. Usually during peak gaming hours, I’ll get into games where my hits literally won’t register, bullets will kill me behind walls, I’ll walk into a room and no one seems to notice, I’ll die in half the time it should take to die. These are just a few issues I’ve noticed getting worse every time I log into the game. I never noticed these issues being so horrible until recently. So yeah… it’s pretty horrible. I really hope they fix this sooner rather than later.
