Nerf Melee by Buffing Health

Melee balance has been a hotly debated topic over the years and there has been one main reason: Health has been way lower than shields since Halo 2.

One of the best thing about CE was the simplicity of the shield health system 75 points of health and 75 points of shield. Simple Right?

Apparently not. Starting in Halo 2 and through Reach the health and shield system was changed. Rather than having equal health and shields the health was weakened compared to shields. Instead of 75/75 the system was changed to 45/70.

It is this imbalance that has caused a problem with the melee in every Halo’s multiplayer. The Halo 3/Reach/Post Patch-H2 deathcharge is only a problem because the health is way lower than the damage a single melee does. The shields have enough hitpoints to take a melee but with bleedthough(like it should be) it way to few bullets before you are vulnerable to a OHK melee.

If Both health and shields had the same amount of hitpoints as one melee, then the only way to get a OHK melee is if the shields were depleted, but unlike Reach without bleedthrough the bullets you land on someone going for a double beatdown matters.

TL;DR
Health should be=Shields
50=50 which leads to…
*Better Melee Balance
*Better grenade balance(No asploding with 3/4 of shields left)
*Better weapons balance(no more close range clubs)

Melee damage should be high, but the problem comes for it being impossible to miss a melee attack.

Melee lunge breaks the game, as it makes melee basically a guaranteed hit.

It should be risk/reward, as you risk doing no damage if you miss a melee attack, but have the possibility to do decent damage with a melee attack.

THIS,since when do you fly to your opponent toy punch his shields off…makes no sense mang

At that close a range a melee should be a guarantee. and without the melee there is no short range, close combat game. You end up with the same boring game reach is all midrange shooting, and the population droping like a rock. No thanks leave the melee as it was in H3.

That’s exactly it. I tried to make that point in the Reach forums, but nobody there is really receptive to reason.

they should just make it that lunge only works when your crosshair is on the other person and it only HITS the guy if the crosshair is still on the person once u lunge

Melee damage would be the same as it has been in H3/Reach TU/H2 TU

The only difference would be Health wouldn’t be so pitifully low that you are better off using all non-headshot weapons as clubs. Lunge should be lowered as you said, but the low player health just makes it worse.

Equal Health and shields is better for the balancing as a whole. Not only for melee but for grenade and weapon balance as well. This is something independent of melee changes that will in turn balance the melee better.

Shooting should be encouraged for all non-headshot weapons. The system in place in H2 TU/H3/Reach TU causes nearly all CQC fights to end with melees. Melee should be a powerful part of the CQC toolset but shouldn’t be the only option.

I think you meant to say “shouldn’t be the only option”.

And I agree. Especially that the lunge could use a nerf.

Indeed, Facepalm

And the best way to do that is make Health have and equal number of hitpoints compared to shields

I tryed to make a fourm about how its dumb how a spartan can get laid out by a wack in the back. I said it makes no since and its too easy it should be a assassinations every time.
