Nerf Enemy Air for FireFight

I can’t even count how many games I’ve lost due to Direct Air and to Blisterbacks. Blisterbacks themselves aren’t bad (annoying, not bad though), but it’s completely ridiculous how they can attack units from a decent range away and my units won’t react due to it not being close enough. Especially when in a group.

As for Direct Air, either nerf it, or get rid of it. To be honest, early game, it ain’t so bad, because you ain’t set up yet, so you’re able to be a bit more flexible. But late game, when you’re already set up, you only have like 5-10 seconds to react, and even then, unless you have enough anti air gathered up at once, you’ll lose.

Bit of a vent post. What does everyone else think?

Direct Air is utter -Yoink-.
Why make barriers when an army of 70 Banshees can come in quickly and focus the Terminus?

Well, with the way terminus firefight works, is it worth it to nerf the “Direct Air” wave? Before I go forward I must put this. I am in no way a pro and therefore some of this information may be wrong or invalid. That also being said I don’t have the authority to say that my opinion is better and yours sucks so please take this with a grain of salt. Now on to your regularly scheduled response.

The way in which Terminus firefight works is enemies spawn from set spawn locations per wave with random waves. Every five waves you have a boss such as “Big Guns” or “Heroes” etc. And after said boss wave the enemy learns a random “Y” ability and their stats get buffed. So here’s my question. Why nerf anything in Terminus if it’ll eventually reach the broken point again? You could nerf air in TFF(Terminus Fire Fight) but eventually the stat increase every five waves will eventually reach the broken point, the point where it’s considered OP, so what’s the point? There is no point to nerfing it. But if you are having trouble with TFF’s “Direct Air” wave here are some tips:

  1. The obvious:

This is obvious but if you have a UNSC person then make sure that for every turret slot it’s a UNSC turret. UNSC has better turret’s than banished. But most importantly make sure all the turrets around the terminus are UNSC and upgraded to anti-air. This gives you a fighting chance against the wave.

  1. The back-up:

This tip isn’t necessarily possible with only two people, rather it is recommended for three’s so if you only play with one other friend this isn’t the strategy for you but it is possible. This strategy requires two out of the three players to go out and expand. While the last person sets up around the Terminus. This last person should be an Andres as with 10-12 kodaks and the rest of the population being wolverines nothing ground related is going to make it to the terminus for a long time. Plus the wolverines being there help for anti-air and will obliterate the direct air wave. If your worried because since the third person who is stationed at the terminus isn’t expanding means they will get less population don’t worry. Just simply once you have enough supplies just ask if your friends could sack their mini-bases, you get it, que up the units, then just give it back to them. It is a very easy way to get 140 population and that is needed for this strategy.

  1. The master:

This works for 2s and 3s and even solos. Just simply be Shipmaster, he’s an excellent leader with an awesome hero. His leader powers allow you to be everywhere at once. And you can displace the enemies,“Direct Air” wave for even more time to get to the terminus. Plus his glassing beam can melt foes at tier three even at the higher waves. Also his mass cloaking is awesome because most waves can’t even see cloak helping your army survive longer and able to push out more. You’ll see results very quickly but this strategy does require good micro to work so be weary of that.

That’s really all the ways I could think of too combat the dreaded,“Direct Air” wave. But I know there are a few more methods. Feel free to share if you disagreed or agree, or if you just want to critique what I said. In my opinion they should keep air the way it is and keep the “Direct Air” wave as it keeps you on your toes. Hope this helped and thanks for reading!

Every 4 Waves, there’s a Special wave that is different than the others.
The waves I know about are: Bandit Raids, ODST Drops, Suicide Grunts, Infectors of a type that didn’t appear in the first 3 waves and ‘‘Special’’ Direct Air.

All of these are easy to deal with except for the Direct Air.
The Special Airs do not take the usual path with your barriers but instead go straight for the Terminus.
The problem with them is they only focus the Spires and then the Terminus and won’t attack anything else besides your turrets sometimes.
On highter waves, their numbers and stats are too high to be dealt with.
Even if all of your units are here, they won’t be able to kill every Hornet/Vulture/Banshee/Blisterback before the Terminus is destroyed and you and your team is defeated.

Eventually you’re bound to come across an impossible wave, whether it’s 500% damage and health boost grizzlies or a 350% health and damage boosted banshees and blister backs. The mode has unlimited waves so eventually you’re gonna reach a point where you can’t keep up. The stat boost are too much for any army, even an optimized army, too handle. While you may hate it that’s how it is. It’s a tower defense game mode and you WILL get overrun eventually. Just because the “Direct Air” wave is the one that kills us off the most often, removing it will result in another “impossible” wave that people are going to again complain about and ask it to be removed. Me personally I hate the “Big Guns” wave as it is almost impossible in the later stages of the game, like the “Direct Air” wave. I hate it because it’s usually the one to finish me off, or leave the terminus on low enough health to where the next wave finishes me. Instead of complaining how impossible it is too get through it, I think of a different or new strategy and try again. That’s what tower defense modes are about. That’s how tower defense modes work and that’s how they are so awesome.(Sorry if it seems I’m getting really attached to this, I just love firefight I guess) Different strategies equal different results, and with patches and game balances the top tier strategy is always changing. In short I am in no way saying you are with the category of people who just complain all the time about how hard something is and that it needs to be removed in the absence of their skill. You have been very patient and not very rude which I appreciate. All that I’m saying is instead of looking at it as “Impossible” look at it as a fun an interesting challenge. But hey, take it as you will. Who’s stopping you?

It isn’t unlimited waves, at least with matchmaking. Reached round 100, and then it gives a victory screen.

Like the user above me stated. There is no infinite waves. Max is 100 in matchmaking and solo (I’ve done 100 solo) Direct air waves are almost impossible once you hit 60 plus. I’ve done a 3vE and 2 of us had a entire army of anti air (I was wolves and the other guy was reavers) fully T3’d and all with max veterancy and Hornets wiped us out and ended the game.

It needs to go. The direct air waves need to go and so do the 1000000000 Vulture waves.

There is challenging and there is stupid. This is just stupid. Other than that it’s a solid game mode.

you need to have some wolverines (with highest veterancy) and nightingales and as the other friend said just watch the number of waves. Every 4 Waves there is a Special wave and it can be the direct air. if it was, u need to act fast and fall back your wolverines and nightingales to the terminus. nightingale’s Y ability can clock the terminus and even they can blind the enemy air units with this ability and it will be so helpful. try your leader powers to stop them.
my fear in terminus is volture’s phoenix missiles. not the direct air.

Vultures and the blisterbacks man haha. But yeah I agree, difference between challenging and stupid. For instance, getting spartans wave 5 that can literally destroy anything you have and wipe out spire nodes in 10 seconds is stupid.

I once played with randoms and got Spartans on Wave 5.
They killed all spires and 1 ally ragequited, thus making me leave.

NIGHTINGALE SMOKE BOMB CLOAKS THE TERMINUS!!!
Thats it. That’s how you beat direct air.
This isn’t perfect as the splash on their weapons hits the turrets and splashes onto the spires causeing them to possibly fall, so hopefully they have more than just turrets to shoot but then again you’re not defending the spires yore defending the terminus.
(Shrouds don’t cloak btw I’ve tried)(and one smoke bomb covers the terminus and all spires at once)(and -Yoink- the unsc heros wave Alice is too OP for wave 5)

I think it needs to be balanced, or maybe reconfigured.

wolverines, with max veterancy, are melted from heavy/medium mix air waves.

it’s a joke how much damage they put out, especially forerunner sentinels.

I get it’s supposed to be hard, but wave five shouldn’t be Spartans or air units that’ll shred the terminus.
