'Neon Screen' armor effect is not centered

The center of the neon screen armor effect is almost in front of the right eye. I really like the armor effect, but this ruins it a bit. Please fix this. Thanks!

I think it looks a bit ‘oversized’ and overly cartoonish on a few helmets. I wish it was smaller and hugged the visor more.

yeah, off center. A little crooked.

my designer OCD brain is so stressed by this :face_with_spiral_eyes:

With the EVA [C] it looks like my spartan is looking over the top of his glasses.

I personally think it’s too wide and far out, needs to be closer to the face and less wide. I hate that it’s also off center and crooked. Super annoying.

Damn now my OCD is kicking in

It’s likely that way so that it can fit in front of any helmet, and to be future proofed for any larger helmet designs they make in the future.

Wouldn’t they just be able to attach it to a ‘3D skeletal frame’ for newer armor cores or larger helmets? Like always keeping it ‘x’ distance based on the actual model itself? I just felt like it was a little ‘too big’ and a little ‘too far’ from where it should naturally sit, but that is just my opinion.

I hope they fix so it doesn’t look so dumb

I just found out the Neon Hawk is also off center. Put it on the Mark VII helmet and compare the groove down the middle and back of the helmet. Good job 343. You must be hiring interns to do your job for free.

Over here in AU we call them the ‘job experience kids’. They didn’t just use them to develop the game, they infest this forum too, enforcing the ‘rules’ (or just stuff they don’t like)…

I’m kind of hoping there’ll be some accountability within 343 but I doubt it. After the -Yoink!- that was the launch of MCC this is probably considered a raging success

also should be more opacity

when i was a kid i used to think games were made by magicians. Now theyre made by muggles

Hm… I wouldn’t be against that, but honestly all holograms like AI just aren’t transparent enough. They all look solid.

Nah. Every single attachment actually uses a universal coordinate point unrelated to the helmet. You can observe this by seeing that the attachments sit in the exact same spot unrelated to the helmet itself. Were you to remove the head, the attachments would adhere to the mounting point on the model’s skeleton that exists already, independent of the helmet.

Oh, that’s good to know. Seems like a strange design choice in ‘2022’ for ‘343’ to make since I would think it would limit further customization choices down the road. I just assumed the helmets functioned as part of the ‘3D skeletal frame’ because that made the most sense to me (though admittedly, ‘3D design’ is well outside my expertise). I appreciate the information and clarification nonetheless!

Any time. Honestly, it’s a future-proofing method more than anything! If each helmet had its own attachment coordinates, then the probability of error / appearing in the wrong spot PROBABLY increases? It’s a simplification / data bloat reduction measure, I believe.

One of the chief complaints about Halo 5, is that it took over 100GB to have on your console. A LOT of what 343i has done is to reduce file bloat. Even the emblem system seems to be a similar case - where they have set color palettes and decals, but if we had the color freedom at modern resolutions, it’d cause some more file bloat and longer load times.

Which isn’t ideal. But, neither is the system at play.

But anyway, check it out. Some attachments have curiously longer stems one one helmet than they would on others - and never actually move position. It’s also why attachments you aren’t supposed to have, clip through some helmets / aren’t allowed (like EVA)

This independency is also very very likely why various attachments aren’t effected (though not all! Some are!) by Armor Coatings.

It is a strange system, but we’ll shake it out in time I think.

Now that you bring that point to my attention, I can understand why they did it from that perspective. Even though I play on ‘PC’, ‘I too’ feel that reducing bloat is still quite important and necessary. I just hope ‘343’ can eventually come up with a more elegant solution down the line which makes everyone happy. If they’re going to customize the game going forward with hundreds of ‘attachments, trinkets, and the like’, it could definitely create unforeseen clipping issues or limit the creation of otherwise bulkier armor.
