Neill Blomkamp perfect director for Halo

As you people are all aware Steven Spielberg is directing the upcoming halo t.v series. In my eyes this is huge gamble as with t.v series there’s always a greater chance of it being a hit or miss. Obviously I’m hoping its awesome and sticks to the halo canon/law.

Anyway I just watched Elysium last night and thought it was very well filmed. The way Neill was able to portray a hardcore realistic future with awesome cinematography and the ability to make you think (the goal of a sci-fi movie?). You can see when watching the movie that this he is no ordinary director. He is a film maker of the future no doubt. His previous film District 9 was also incredible and original. I believe he won an oscar for the film? For any people who have watched the two films you would know where I’m coming from. Just imagine taking Neill’s filming capabilities and applying them to a halo movie. Imagine the Fall of Reach!! In my view Neill at this stage (I can easily be wrong, just an opinion) is the only director who could do a “halo movie” justice.

I understand Steven Spielberg has made some pretty nice sci-fi films like super 8. War of the Worlds was actually pretty average. I’m not sure about Tom Cruse… So for Steven to direct the halo t.v series, I’m ok with that (but only ok). Some of his movie’s are a tad cliche. If they screw it up though I’m going to rage. There is so much to lose.

To clarify for the people who don’t know, Neill Blomkamp was to direct the “Halo Movie” with Peter Jackson being producer but the budget got out of hand and Microsoft wanted the majority of creative control (greedy greedy)

I guess the point of this post is I believe if there ever was a halo movie to be made in the future Neill Bomkamp HAS to be the person to do it. If Neill was directing the halo t.v series that would have been insane but clearly that is not the case. Steven Spielberg is a good replacement.

What are your views on the Halo t.v series? Do you believe its a gamble? and Do you agree/disagree that Neill Bomkamp would be a great director for the Halo movie which we all desperately want? (not some halo t.v series which makes me feel a little edgy)

Also on a side note did any of the people who have watched District 9 and Elysium make the similarities with the aliens in District 9 that their height and leg structure is very similar to Elites and also Elysium being a habitable ring world? Neill Blomkamp influenced by the universe of halo perhaps?

double side note: I wrote this in about 20 minutes, so there’s probably plenty of spelling errors. My apologies.

Well he did this.

yeah i remember seeing that. They’re pretty good

As soon as I saw the close ups of Elysium, I almost screamed in the movie theater “HALO!”

Why not Guillermo del Toro? Or Zack Synder?

Guillermo del Toro? the director of Pacific Rim? I’m sorry but that movie was terrible, I don’t know how that received positive reviews. Terrible script/average acting/did not care about any of the characters/australians in the movie were stereotypical as anything. The action was the only interesting part which proved it was only a mindless CGI movie.

Zach Snyder would be ok but I don’t see him being able to build a realistic sic-fi world like Blomkamp.

Blomkamp>Snyder>>>>>>>>>>>Del Toro

We obviously saw two different movies. But to answer your question as to how it got good reviews…the reviewers obviously liked it. Pretty simple.

We saw the same movie. We must just have different views on what makes a well made movie.

> Why not Guillermo del Toro? Or Zack Synder?

I honestly think that these two would create a better Halo film than Blomkamp. After watching Landfall and some of Blompkamp’s films, I really don’t think his style will merge well with a Halo movie.

Btw, I personally absolutely LOVED Pacific Rim. And no, I don’t think it was just mindless CGI action. At all.

I agree landfall was a little weird. But take into consideration the budget and his aims. The fact he made his best movie district 9 afterwards and now Elysium. I’d happily settle for Snyder but I dunno… after watching Elysium im still convinced that Blomkamp could make the best halo movie out of the three. His gore might be a little over the top but the themes and ideas he displays in his movies are top notch. He’s a realist which applies well to science-fiction.

Pacific Rim will forever tarnish my perception of Del Toro. In a bad way of course.

I think Del Toro is better at director movies involving giant behemoths and all that jazz. He doesn’t seem that bad though, but I think Steven would do a better job.

Pretty sure Neil Blomkamp said he wanted full creative control.
Yeah.
