Hello Halo fans.
I was wondering if anybody knows if Neil Davidge has been signed up to score all three of the new Halo games, or if it was a just one off for Halo 4?
I thought the Halo 4 soundtrack was inspired, so i’m eager for his return.

I still rank Marty O’Donnell as the best composer for Halo. If only Neil did something similar to Marty, then i would listen to the soundtrack. In other words, i hope and pray the next two soundtracks are not "nostalgic"

So let me get this straight, you want Neil to be more like Marty, because Marty was the only Composer for the Halo FPS titles, but you don’t want the next two sound tracks to be nostalgic?
Granted I understand why everyone thinks Marty should be the one and only composer for Halo’s soundtracks, but Marty has been the composer for 10 years straight, it’s time to try out new composers, different styles of composing the soundtrack, different tones, not just the “Marty O’Donnell” Style. I like Neil and his work, he has some great music for Halo 4, and if people will open up more and be more willing to step out of the comfort zone a little, they might just realize that Marty isn’t the only person who can be the best composer for Halo.

Well, after i read a bulletin from Bungie that Marty will no longer do the soundtracks from Halo, i was almost in tears. I liked the way he composed the soundtrack, b/c he gave the series the “feeling” of Halo. Even when i listened to Halo 3: ODST, i felt that it described the story. When i listened to Halo 4’s soundtrack, it was too “nostalgic”. If only Neil composed the next titles, the way Marty did in the prev. titles, it would be better. Its really hard to explain. You would need to listen to Halo 4 and compare them to prev. Halo soundtracks.

I understand, most was, granted I wasn’t, not because I dislike Marty, but mostly because I also understood that Marty was a Bungie Employee and Microsoft had 343i, which had it’s own composer working, and I enjoyed the music in both version of the announcement trailer, that I was looking forward to hearing more.

I enjoyed his soundtracks, they did the Halo feel to the music, but I also felt Halo 4’s soundtrack fitted Halo 4’s campaign perfectly.
> When i listened to Halo 4’s soundtrack, it was too “nostalgic”.
The only reason I can think of that would make Halo 4’s soundtrack sound “Nostalgic”, is the fact that Neil is trying to stay with in Halo fan’s comfort zone, and yet still give new and wonderful tracks.
> If only Neil composed the next titles, the way Marty did in the prev. titles, it would be better.
This is still hard for me to understand. But I think what you’re trying to say is that Neil shouldn’t be trying to make his scores sound like/similar to past scores, and each game have a different score, but with the same feel to them, kind of like Halo CE and Halo ODST had two different score tons, but they both felt Haloish.
> You would need to listen to Halo 4 and compare them to prev. Halo soundtracks.
Trust me, I listen to all if not most of the current tracks that are released, along with most of the tracks from Halo CE - Halo CEA.
I understand and respect your love of Marty’s music, it is unarguably stunning and strangely emotive.
However i do feel that Neil Davidge’s music can stand alone.
It would have been easy to go the Halo Wars route and hire a composer to mimic the style and sound of Halo, but instead 343i/microsoft took a risk and i applaud them for that, and i feel the risk paid off.
I must confess, after my first playthrough i wasn’t blown away by the music, but after nearly 100 hours of campaign gameplay i adore it.
The mix of orchestral and electronic instruments i think was genius and fits perfectly with the themes of the games story.
It’s a shame we had to lose Marty, but i think Neil Davidge rose to a seemingly impossible challenge.

…i still remember your reaction when you heard Halo 4. Not even 5 tracks, you turn it off, then you “blast”, Mjolnir Mix. OP and Stealth, I personally, like both Marty O’Donnell and Neil Davidage, but in a way, he’s kind of right. However, when you said Halo 4 “nostalgic” music by Neil does fit perfectly well with the campaign. I think what he meant was hearing “paced” music, like for instance, Skyline, in the beginning, its slow, then you hear jungle beats, for a minute. After that it becomes slow again, then the action part of the music kicks in. But, I think, and hopefully in the next OST, Neil can add some, “intensity” and “fast paced, action” music.

Either I’m not completely understanding what you said here, or you just contradicted yourself.
Either way, I personally love the Halo 4 soundtrack, in my opinion it’s one of the only things about Halo 4 that is genius in its own right.
I don’t think it is as iconic or incredible as Marty’s work, but still amazing.
Personally I wonder what Halo soundtrack would sound like they hired John Williams.
He could do better.
But I don’t blame him.
For not being as cool as Marty.
That’s one hell of a legacy to match up to.
Where the -Yoink- is Stephen Rippy?

Lol, what i meant was I liked the way the prev. halo soundtracks than the Halo 4 soundtrack.

Lol, then i’ll be hearing Battle of Heroes, or Duel of Fates during the campaign against the Didact.
> Where the -Yoink!- is Stephen Rippy?
Steven Rippy did the soundtrack for Halo Wars. IMO, it was horrible.

We don’t know but it will probably be him.
Hope he will do the rest. loved the Halo 4 soundtrack
Yep, why not. Check this old topic and my old poll.

… before H4 i was one of the hardest critic. (
the artwork-trailer-music made it actually in the H4 game. In the 3rd tower in the pelican mission.)
P.s. Don’t necropost plz.
