Negative Communities Ruining Halo

I’ve seen a lot of blame thrown around at 343 over the past month on here. With each update there is an uproar as to what isn’t there, and no real appreciation for what we have or for what 343 has done. I won’t bother reviving most of the arguments and hate posts, but I think we need to take a step back and have some accountability for creating such a negative environment throughout the game.

There was a 3 hour long twitch live stream yesterday, which many of you probably know about. Its contents included the Cartographers Gift December DLC, and the hosts went through and discussed each part piece by piece. We are certainly getting a lot of content here, but that doesn’t matter. Almost immediately, hate threads sprung up about what wasn’t in the video with very little appreciation for what was there. Again, content aside, this immediate jump to the negative is ruining the game, and people that are just tuning in or maybe thinking of buying Halo will probably go on here and think that the game is the terrible.

Halo 5 certainly has it’s share of flaws, but it has it’s share of strengths as well. It’s easy to blame the developer for a smaller multiplayer population, but how about we look around and see what creating a negative and toxic atmosphere is doing to the game?

I’m thankful for 343i

For making me realize how much I miss Halo Reach

Thank you. People wonder why the Halo community is a laughingstock, and yet all they have to do is look at this forum and see all of the -Yoink- that pollutes it. Some people have the mentality that enough is never enough and that 343 can magically add all of this content instantly.

I agree. I believe all of us want to see Halo succeed. Still you can’t change the viewpoints of those that despise this game. They have their reasons. It’s a shame that the Halo franchise has to suffer because it didn’t meet the needs of some disgruntled fans.

Yes, a small handful of fans on the forums are killing the game, not the game itself.

What critics are doing to the game? Did the critics leave out essential gametypes, delay standard features of the game, and overall ensure that this is the least-finished Halo game to date on launch?

If not, then it ain’t us.

The least finished Halo that isn’t making you pay DLC for the missing parts.

He’s right, most other games these days hold back a lot of content so they can milk more money out of their customers later.

There’s a difference between critics and ignorant loudmouths and haters. A lot of people here scream about the littlest things. Still funny that people say that this game is lacking a lot of content.

Well maybe you see a lot of negativity because all the player who do enjoy the game as it is are actually playing?
People who have a problem tend to come to the forums to complain about whatever they don’t like.
Not all of us are negative.

If critics want to post two sided constructive arguments, then by all means, do so. One good one that I saw was the 4 year development cycle. Gave a solution to a percieved problem in a productive way.

Complaining about people complaining never helps.

At the end of the day, 343 are responsible for everything Halo 5. The product they released, for most, was a disappointment in terms of content. Even if they address every single issue months down the line, it will be too little too late. It’s not as if this is 343s first crack at breaking into the Halo franchise and they are lucky gaming has evolved to the point that they can “fix” the game they put out post launch.

So much done right this time around with the gameplay but with the shocking amount of content and delays after delays for things that are expected to be there from day 1 for Halo games, everythin is just dampening what actually works great in this game.

Perhaps people do go overboard but for a lot of people Halo is the main video game franchise they play. When they get home, kick off their shoes and sick down to relax and play Halo, it’s kind of important. When you get hyped for a sequel for years and it comes out and doesn’t have the features you enjoyed most and played most in other titles wouldn’t you be miffed? Critisizm is healthy, blatant hating and attacking each other obviously isn’t.

343 isn’t innocent, I know there are a lot of people jumping to defend them but please don’t forget this. Free DLC does not excuse the current state of the game or the state of the game at launch. If we all lay down and took the game for what it was, who knows how the next Halo title would turn out? Theatre gone or delayed? No custom games at all?

All that can be done is for 343 to try and listen, which they have not been doing that well so far. They need to try and focus on what is important to the community and prioritize things better, which would be achieved a lot easier with interaction with the fans (with Forge coming soon the last thing we need next month is more REQs, gametypes are a must). The fact that fans have to spam and spam on the Twitch chat for simple answers to simple questions and still get ignored shows how their interaction is at the minute.

Begging your pardon; are you saying that I shouldn’t hold 343 accountable because at least they’re putting these components back into the game for free rather than charging for them? It would have been despicable if they WERE charging for them.

There is a difference between “complaining about people complaining” and saying that overwhelming negativity hurts the game experience. You are over-simplifying it.

Pretty sure it’s impossible for the community to ruin the game. The devs decisions determine people’s reactions. As it turns out, 343 made some pretty poor decisions.

I hope you realize that this has been going on in this game since CE. I wasn’t posting on the forums in CE, but even the great Halo 2 had people constantly bashing it (for things like the pistol being changed, bad weapon balance, etc). This is nothing new.

No offense but it’s kind of hard to look at the positives or strengths of the games when there’s twice or three times as many negatives just sayin.

I’m starting to feel like a broken record, but people are allowed to express their negative opinions as long as they go the right way about doing it. And no, criticism isn’t ruining Halo, even if you count in the criticism that’s genuinely toxic (and not just “toxic” because you disagree with it). There’s nothing else to discuss here.
