Needler

Hi there 343! Tech preview is good! One thing I noticed is if I’m in range of the needler then I’m gonna die no matter what. So trying to stay out of its range is good. I thought it was OP but it’s short range balances that I think. One change I think would be good is the visuals of the needler itself so it can be easier to know if that’s what an enemy is holding so I can better know to keep that distance.

After using it a bunch of times in the technical preview I feel like in it’s current state it shouldn’t be a wall pickup with the short restock time afforded to it, it’s practically a power weapon with it’s range & super short TTK.

Whenever i see a bot with a needler i go into cover thats a death trap if i ever seen one u goneeee in less than 2 seconds LOL.

Regarding visuals, I also think the projectiles should be bigger and/or brighter. This is more fun and satisfying for the shooter, but also makes it easier to see and dodge as a victim.

It should be titled “hailstorm” because it just shreds currently. I have to back down in a fight with a bot each time they’re using them against me. I do 100% agree that in its current form it’s a power weapon not a wall grab.

Agree. I can’t see my own needles much less the enemy needles. Much brighter please.

The Needler has always been hard to balance. It’ll either be completely useless, or it’ll be like a mini power weapon. Though honestly the BR and Commando are easily in line with it on the power department, you just gotta engage from further away.

I think it’s pretty well balanced, Spartan level bots were dodging effectively honestly

I couldn’t tell when the bots where firing at me with it. I would try so I could dip into cover but found it really difficult. I found it best to just pursue another target cause it was certainly a death sentence 75% of the time IMO.

The Needler is meant to be a counter against close range weapons, provides a decent fight at mid range, and gets slaughtered at long range. Its basically meant to be your best way of taking out a person with either a Grav Hammer, Energy Sword, or Bulldog. But at the same time the Needler loses to just about anything else. So I view the Needler as a close-range power weapon hunter.

That’s not true, it could beat out plenty of the weapons available.

The needler as seen in the technical preview was a counter to practically nearly every weapon, it truly was a power weapon, it had the range & damage with the benefit of continuous ammo, the idea of it being a specific close range counter loses ground when it stacked up decently against almost every weapon available in the flight.

If you want it to be a close range counter to power weapons such as the energy sword, then it has to compromise between being either a strong power pickup, or a reliable, but cautious wall pickup.

I think it seems so powerful because you can’t see the needles at all so the doom just kinda… happens

Needler is perfectly balanced. It shines in open areas and can become useless in areas with cover. It’s the perfect casual weapon.

Dude, that’s me every time, I’m running straight away.

Rate of fire or tracking seems off on the Needler compared to Halo 5. The biggest gripe I have with it is actually the sound effect: It sounds too much like a human machine gun and doesn’t have that glass shatter sound the needler is known for.

It’s also too good in the hands of bots. Like, the tracking works better for them but not the players.

The needler is way too OP the needler needs to be powerful but take more skill that just looking in the direction of a player.

Ya the needler is way to op in the hands of those bots that’s for sure but it’s damn fun to use that’s for sure to use against them :joy:

I think that the best solution would be for the projectiles to quickly slow down as they go across greater ranges, making a mid-range attack only slightly difficult to dodge and making a long-range attack an easy exercise. So the Needler becomes deadly in short range, meh in mid range, and totally useless at long range.
