Well the Needler looks a tad stronger now than in previous games but from all of the videos I’ve seen it looks like it runs out of ammo way too quickly. All of the clips I’ve seen people are only able to get 1 or 2 kills if that and then they run out. I think the Needler should have more ammo (not clip size, spare ammo) otherwise it just doesn’t seem like it is really worth picking up. What are your thoughts?
That’s what the Tactical Package/Support Upgrade is for. The Ammo Support Upgrade to be precise.
I think it’s been placed a little more towards the power weapon side of things, so a ton of ammo is probably not a good idea. However, Needlers historically run out of ammo very quickly anyway.
It’s considered a power weapon now, so like most power weapons, it’ll run out of ammo after only a few uses. Seems more balanced that way.
I guess I’m terrible with the needler, I only ever got one to two kill per clip myself.
> I think it’s been placed a little more towards the power weapon side of things, so a ton of ammo is probably not a good idea. However, Needlers historically run out of ammo very quickly anyway.
Well compared to other power weapons you get from ordnance drops it seems underpowered. I’ve seen people get 4-5 kills with the SAW, or Railgun or other things but the Needler looks like it is getting no love. Also to the previous poster, yeah I know about the ammo perk but still other ordnance weapons have more by default so what is the point in using the Needler? It seems like a “fun” weapon to use but I don’t think I’d choose it over practically any other weapon unless I had no ammo.
H4 is the most powerful needler build so far. I think it has come the furthest as far as put down power goes for any weapon, more ammo would make it a scary weapon.

Which is why I didn’t explicitly call it a power weapon. It’s more of a gap filler between normal weapons and power weapons. Honestly, I see the Needler as the weapon that causes people with Requisition to change their possible ordinance drop.

That’s the point. Currently it is outclassed by most if not all the other ordnance drops. I like weapon variety and the Needler has always been a fun gun to use in campaign but online not so much. I appreciate the steps they have taken in order to make it more effective but I feel that right now the next step would to be giving it another magazine or so. I don’t think that would make it overpowered, just more useful and encourage people to pick it up more often.
I’m wondering if using the thruster pack can dodge needles
> I’m wondering if using the thruster pack can dodge needles
My guess would be no as long as they are in the Needler’s effective range. I also remember reading that all the Covie weapons projectile speeds had been increased so I’m guessing they’ll be a lot more useful now.
i think it has the same clip it looks like its had a major fire rate and damage boost that might be the reason it might seem like a smaller clip
I thought the Needler was always a power weapon because of it’s lethality, except in ODST.
> I thought the Needler was always a power weapon because of it’s lethality, except in ODST.
No. The Needler was terrible in Halo CE and Halo 2.

In H2, the Needler was one of the best weapons, in my opinion. CE it wasn’t that powerful, but the Needlers from H2 and Reach were crazy.
Well it’s a PW nao, so it should have less ammo.

From what I’ve seen, the Needler is being treated as more of a low-end power weapon, so I’d assume that’s why the ammo is limited. I believe a player can manage to get 4 kills total with it if they use the exact amount of needles each time. I agree with you, and I think the Needler should get a tad more, however I’m totally ok and understandable why 343i chose to go the way they did.

Not unless you were using them against people who didn’t know what they were doing. They were weak, and could only be used effectively when duel-wielded. However, a BR, or duel-wielded PR-SMG would beat duel needlers 100% of the time.

Well, I was meaning dual-wielded in H2. But still, you’re guaranteed to get a fast kill, even if you die, on H2 or Reach if you use a Needler.

On Reach, maybe, since they upped its power significantly from previous Halo games. Now it’s getting another buff.
From weakest to strongest, the Needler iterations are as follows:
Halo 2
Halo CE
Halo 3
Halo Reach

Halo 4
