So it’s more likely that the carbine is the medium range weapon for the Covies again. Also, the storm rifle is scoped too, so that role is pretty well filled.

We saw a render of the Spartan Laser and mongoose. We have pictures of the Falcon and Wraith, video of the Fuel Rod. Active Camo was confirmed to be an AA. Plasma Rifle is confirmed out, and the rest have yet to be revealed and could very well not be in the game.
If I’m not mistaken, a return of the needle rifle would break canon somewhere. Either in Bungies explanation of why we haven’t seen it in any other Halo game, or lack of Covenant ordinance. Either way, I doubt it will make it back, same with gravity hammer, concussion rifle, focus rifle, and plasma launcher.
But you never know. 343 came up with Cortana updating Chief’s software so he could use AA’s, so yeah.

>
> Why would it have to be toned down?
Just for the sake of balance.
I found it odd that the NR can auto-fire even though it’s technically a precision weapon, and Auto-Firing is an assault weapon trait.
Not to mention the Covies already had three assault based weapons in Reach. (Plasma Rifle, Plasma Repeater, Needler)
> You’ve got a point, but the carbine already fires faster and is more accurate in Halo 4 plus, that would be too many 2x scoped weapons (pistol, carbine, battle rifle, possibly light rifle). So maybe, the NR could have a 3x scope and have its normal functions, but also fire a two round burst not only would it make it more of a counterpart to the DMR, but it would make it a rather unique gun.
Two round burst sounds good and yeah Carbines better then NR but the Supercombine explosion does do damage in CQC situations and Id miss that(I know needler has it but Needler is a power weapon now)
I think weaponry shouldn’t be taken too seriously. After all the DMR appeared in Reach and is now in H4, the BR appeared in H2 and H3 but not in ODST (well not really). I have no problem with divorcing weaponry from canon, as they are simply gameplay aspects.
As for the Needle Rifle… I’d love it to come back. The Needler is a great weapon, but it is hard to use in multiplayer, so its cool to see needles being used in another weapon like the NR. There is a danger of an over-cluttered weapon sandbox though. BR, DMR, Carbine, Light Rifle, Pistol AND Needle Rifle. That’s a lot of mid-range.
> > Give the Needle Rifle a thermal scope and a two-round burst or a charged shot feature. That way it can function like a Beam Rifle too, but it expends the whole mag in one shot.
>
> I don’t think a thermal scope is really necessary(considering that we have promethean vision). Also, considering the needle rifle fires solid projectiles, how could it possibly fire a charged shot? If the needle rifle was an energy weapon, I think it would work.
Thermal scope would make it stand out as a ranged weapon. and looks cool. Plus it’s COVENANT SCIENCE. All the needles can be sucked into the chamber at once, fused into a 3 foot long spear, and then fire out of the rifle.

The needle rifle doesn’t break canon in any way. I think it has a good chance of returning, considering that it was in glassland’s(Which ties directly into halo 4s story). I wouldn’t be so quick to count to concussion rifle out either, it is made by sangheili, it will undoubtedly remain as the covie grenade launcher. as for the focus rifle and the plasma launcher, I don’t know. Since the Spartan laser is back, i would think that either the plasma launcher or something new will come to counter the laser. As for the focus rifle, i don’t know, time will tell.

I forgot to mention earlier, but a thermal scope would actually be totally useless. Since a spartans Mjolnir armor masks their thermal signature, the thermal scope would be rendered useless. So basically, it would only be there because it sounds cool.

Actually, seeing that Halo 4 is the Sequel to Halo 3, it would make much more sense for the Beam Rifle to return. The Focus Rifle is just a cheap version of the beam rifle.

The focus rifle is a very powerful weapon, you just have to know how to use it correctly. The focus rifle, as well as the Needle rifle, aren’t bad weapons, they are just given a bad rep because people don’t know how to use them.

WTF are you talking about? did you watch any gameplay? we have already seen gameplay of the banshee, mongoose, and know the spartan laser will be in soooo what the hell are you saying. You dont need clear info given from 343 that it will be in the game you can use your ****ing eyes.

It’s just I would rather have the sentinel beam to play with, as well as the beam rifle. The focus rifle is just the Reach version of the Sentinel beam to me, although I do admit it is good if used correctly. And the Needle Rifle is one of my favorite weapons in Halo Reach.

If the Needle Rifle returned, I’d like to see it be spreadless and bloom-less, but balance this out at long range by being non-hitscan, having the speed of Halo 3’s BR bullets. I’d like to see at least 1 non-hitscan precision weapon in Halo 4.

having a non hitscan precision weapon would be pointless when the rest of them are. it would make the weapon worthless since the other weapons hit instantly and the other player has better ability to dodge your shots(where as you can’t because the other weapon has hitscan). For a precision weapon, in my opinion, hitscan is a must.

The auto fire made the needle rifle unique among other precision weapons. I liked that it was different.
