With all the precision weapons emerging in halo 4(the BR, carbine, light rifle) it has me wondering, is the needle rifle going to be the next to return? Considering that the dmr is back, it would make sense to have a covenant counterpart. This is where i see the needle rifle making a big comeback. Some would say that the carbine already counters the dmr, but I don’t believe this to be so. From what I have seen in mlg gameplay, the carbine functions as a close to mid range weapon like the BR.
This is where the needle rifle comes in, it comes back to rival the dmr as a mid to long range weapon. It would have to be balanced slightly though. It would do the same damage as the carbine does, but with slightly better accuracy and range. Rate of fire would remain the same as it is in reach. Since the carbine now uses the needle rifles reticule, a new one would have to be made. I think that a smaller version of the plasma repeaters reticule could be used with the needle rifle. There would be no need to do any changes to the design(since most covenant weapons are just updated versions from reach, the needle rifle wouldn’t take much to do).
You’ve got a point, but the carbine already fires faster and is more accurate in Halo 4 plus, that would be too many 2x scoped weapons (pistol, carbine, battle rifle, possibly light rifle). So maybe, the NR could have a 3x scope and have its normal functions, but also fire a two round burst not only would it make it more of a counterpart to the DMR, but it would make it a rather unique gun.
I wish it was coming back. I like having more sandbox options. But I have a feeling that if it was, we would know about it by now. So it’s more likely that the carbine is the medium range weapon for the Covies again. Also, the storm rifle is scoped too, so that role is pretty well filled.
But you never know. We still haven’t seen Active Camo either, so it’s a possibility.

We havent seen any real info of the spartan laser, invisibility, gravity hammer, plasma rifle, feul rod gun, banshee, falcon, mongoose, wraith, revanant, scarab, or shade turret but that doesnt necessarily mean THOSE arent gonna be in the game, does it?

The light rifle has a 3x scope on it. A 3x scope would be awesome on needle rifle. Nice idea with the two shot burst, sounds like it would be pretty interesting.

I don’t know where you get that the storm rifle has a scope so much clutch. Ive neither heard nor seen this, please give a link to where you got this.
> Personally I would rather have something along the lines of the beam rifle, you know a Covie Sniper.
That’s the focus rifle. Since most covie weapons are basically slightly redone versions from reach, I would bet that the focus rifle will return more than likely than the beam rifle. Although who knows, they could pretty well have both in halo 4.
I would rather have the Beam Rifle return, it was always the best counter to the Sniper Rifle. And I’m sure it will return as the sniper of choice for the Jackals. I never really cared much for the Needle Rifle, but I wouldnt mind seeing it return im sure alot of people would be happy about it, but the Carbine does its job better imo.
A lot of people didn’t like the focus rifle. And to be honest I don’t think the NR should return theres already 4 precision starting weapons BR/DMR/carbine/and possibly the light rifle. At the moment it would be better to have one or two more automatics.
I’d like to see 343 embrace the Needle Rifle as the weapon that bridges the gap between automatic and precision. It wouldn’t be that strange since the NR was technically an automatic in Halo Reach.
> But if I had to choose between the beam rifle and the focus rifle it would most certainly be the beam.

> Back on topic The NR would be great if the auto-fire aspect were toned down a bit.
Give the Needle Rifle a thermal scope and a two-round burst or a charged shot feature. That way it can function like a Beam Rifle too, but it expends the whole mag in one shot.

yeah imagine a needle that big protruding from something though it would be neat to have it pin corpses to the wall like the bow caster in republic commando.

I don’t think a thermal scope is really necessary(considering that we have promethean vision). Also, considering the needle rifle fires solid projectiles, how could it possibly fire a charged shot? If the needle rifle was an energy weapon, I think it would work.

We saw a render of the Spartan Laser and mongoose. We have pictures of the Falcon and Wraith, video of the Fuel Rod. Active Camo was confirmed to be an AA. Plasma Rifle is confirmed out, and the rest have yet to be revealed and could very well not be in the game.
If I’m not mistaken, a return of the needle rifle would break canon somewhere. Either in Bungies explanation of why we haven’t seen it in any other Halo game, or lack of Covenant ordinance. Either way, I doubt it will make it back, same with gravity hammer, concussion rifle, focus rifle, and plasma launcher.
But you never know. 343 came up with Cortana updating Chief’s software so he could use AA’s, so yeah.

Just for the sake of balance.
I found it odd that the NR can auto-fire even though it’s technically a precision weapon, and Auto-Firing is an assault weapon trait.
Not to mention the Covies already had three assault based weapons in Reach. (Plasma Rifle, Plasma Repeater, Needler)

Two round burst sounds good and yeah Carbines better then NR but the Supercombine explosion does do damage in CQC situations and Id miss that(I know needler has it but Needler is a power weapon now)
