Hey everyone, Gamertag Vampyre0422 here! Alrighty! I have seen recent posts here and there about the needle rifle coming back. So instead of shouting “IT MUST COME BACK CAUSE ITS THE NEEDLE RIFLE” I am going to attempt to make a valid argument of why It should come back! And by extension make it so its not totally OP but still an interesting formidable weapon! (and my opinion of how it should be if/when it makes its return) Then I will let you all vote on it!
Alright, everyone knows the needle rifle is the infamous super-combine needle-based rifle counterpart of the DMR in halo reach. Well, with the new halo 4 sandbox we have 2 human non-sniper precision weapons (3 if you count the pistol) the Burst fire BR and the Single shot DMR. As of right now the Carbine is the only precision non-sniper covenant weapon. The carbine seems to be the DMR counterpart to me. but where is the BR counterpart? people want to say the forerunner Light Rifle, which to me is a mix of BR and DMR with carbine-like shots, so therefore I respectfully disagree. the BR as it stands has NO counter part. So I propose the needle rifle return as a med range 2-shot-burst-fire to counter the BR. But to balance it out with the Carbine’s higher R.O.F (rate of fire) it should have a slightly buffed damage (4 two-shot-burst shield take out). And as far as the super combine goes it should be a 2 two-shot-burst (4 needles) body shot for the explosion to come. (Conclusion: 5 shot if you headshot and 6 shot if you super-combine).
This is my interpretation of how the needle rifle should be and how to keep it separate from other sandbox weapons. I hope you all like these ideas!

As much as I agree with you I am wishing more towards a covenant sniper rifle.
But the needle rifle was a good weapon and it would have been great for halo 4.
But I don’t think that 343i is going to put it in if it isn’t already. It would be too hard to do and they would have to change up all of the weapon balances.
well that’s the beauty of the changes I stated. It would balance out with the other weapons!

if you would read my entire argument you would see that i was stating changes that would make it not like the carbine.

We also have the DMR and BR they are both different in their own ways just like how the Needle Rifle and Carbine are different in their own ways besides it’s not like it would hurt if they can add it in why the hell not lol.

i also posted some suggested changes to the NR in my argument (the OP) read it up and vote!
Hmm, well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, me personally, i dont really mind if the weapon is included or not, if it is included, great! thats another weapon added to the sandbox of weapons, if it is not included i wont mind because there looks to be a lot of other weapons to keep it all fresh and make the gameplay interesting.
But for me, im just happy that the carbine is making its return.
i made a small edit to how the NR firing mode suggestion is worded. before it said 2-burst-fire. now it says 2-shot-burst-fire. anyways. read my argument and vote away! keep the thread alive!
but anyways. i think the needle rifle should come back with the suggested changes i listed!
i dont understand why people hate the NR so much. it would be a good BR counterpart with the proper upgrades. (look at my suggestions for said upgrades)
if it returns as a covie sniper (how Cat have been killed in HR ?!) it would be welcome … other than that no
I personally think I made a valid argument and decent upgrade suggestions for the NR(read argument). No one else like?

If the BR is 4/5, that’s waaaay too small.
I loved the NR and it’s not the same as the Carbine just like the BR isn’t the same as the DMR.
I enjoyed super combining kids at range and the increased rate of fire. Heck, you could even make it “burst fire” similar to the BR.

what are you talking about? the base damage to take out shields would be somewhere between the BR and the carbine(maybe one more burst to take out shields than the BR since it fires one less bullet in a burst). Then three 2-shot-bursts (6 needles total) for the super combine (or just go for the headshot) and the BR has 3 shot burst. The needle rifle would just be one less shot in the burst. I see no problem. Read my argument closer.
I don’t want it back. I simply didn’t like it as the main Covie weapon on Reach - no canon explanation as to why there was not Carbine anyways.
And I have a feeling that OP wants thanks.
