Hello all. I’m collecting great VAs who are interested in doing a fandub of the Red vs Blue machinima series. If you’ve seen at least some of the series, this should be a relatively easy audition for you. I’m a voice actor over at Inebriated Ninja Productions (inebriatedninja.com and facebook.com/InebriatedNinjaProductions) and have gathered a handful of VAs from our crew so far to suit some of the characters, but I’m still short a few. Here’s a list of the characters with descriptions of their roles.
Pvt. Leonard Church
De facto leader of the blue team. He’s at his best when he’s surrounded by smart, motivated people who know what they want and are good at figuring out how to get it. His extended time feeling surrounded by idiots has left him bitter, irritable, and impatient with a short temper. Having the one relationship he cared about fall in on him due to his bitterness has only further contributed to his isolation and bitterness. Although he has a noticeable capacity for sarcasm, and is easily annoyed, he can show caringness towards other characters when it’s fair.
Sarge
Staff Sergeant (leader) of the red team. Very much a military man. A gruff southerner, down to his short, fiery temper. Appears angry on the outside, but on the inside he just wants to be loved. Aggressive and bloodthirsty, yet logical and also quite notably eccentric.
Pvt. Richard Simmons
A level headed, straight forward man for the red team. Very logical and intelligent, like a stereotypical nerd, but maintains a pretty confident personality. Very much looks up to the red team leader, Sarge, and very frequently tries to kiss a*s and score brownie points.
Pvt. Franklin Delano Donut
Red team’s rookie. Bearing a considerably more feminine personality compared to his colleagues, Donut is fun-loving, bubbly outgoing, and has a taste for style, flair, and flamboyancy to the point where his teammates question his sexual orientation. He’s energetically heterosexual and this really comes through in his speech.
Audition lines
Instead of giving individual audition lines for the parts, I’m attaching a .zip containing text files, each with an entire scene for each character, to serve as audition lines. In those scenes your character’s lines will be highlighted in yellow. If you have watched and are familiar with the series, it’s important that I stress to you that while sounding like the characters is nice, it is in no way necessary and definitely something to avoid if you just can’t do it. It’s much more important that the actors emulate the personalities of the characters. If your voice differs from the character you’re playing, yet you can act the personality well, then I urge you to take the opportunity to let your voice redefine what that character sounds like. Whenever this project is finished, (and it isn’t certain when it will be) it would be really cool for an audience who has never seen Red vs Blue to think of your character, and picture your voice with them, and it would be even cooler if long time fans of Red vs Blue can imagine your voice with your character just as well as the original actor’s voice.
NOTE: I’ve decided to not include any audition lines for Simmons. Instead, I’d like for someone who’s familiar with the series and familiar with his character to play him. So if you do know him pretty well, and would like to play him, pick out your favorite Simmons bits and audition with those. Minimum 10 lines (and yes, those can be short lines). I just want someone who has a good feel for Simmons’s personality and can do him justice.
Auditions can be sent to [CLASSIFIED] in .wav format. Don’t worry about compressing them. I’ll do that myself. Also, there is no set deadline for the casting of this project. If a particular character isn’t filled, we’re still open to receiving lines. But if we find an actor that we feel really plays the auditioned-for part well, we probably won’t try to replace them. And if we get enough of those kinds of actors for all the roles, we’ll go ahead and close this particular casting call. Since this series continually adds new characters as the story goes on, we’ll come back here and audition more actors. So if you don’t get the character you auditioned for, and would still like to play one in the future, there will probably be future openings.
Again if you would like to be a part of this, are fun and outgoing, great at meeting new people, and enjoy voice acting then we’d love to have you. You don’t even need to have seen the series, let alone be a fan, to be a part of the team.
