Ok, I’ve looked everywhere but still have not found the article I read last year which claimed the “Elite” controller would allow good, common to PC’s, USB only headsets with mic’s. And so I’m guessing the report was bad or Microsoft just didn’t take the time to include this wanted feature. However, I refuse to use the headset that comes with the Xbox One simply because it lacks stereo ability, and almost as bad since you could buy it for the Xbox 360, is the fact that when plugging in a Stereo headset w/mic to the “Elite” controller there’s no way to adjust the volume and/or the mix between game sound and chatting! How could they NOT provide for this, especially since their own headset doesn’t have even basic volume control on it!
In any case, I’d like to know how others are handling this very basic problem. As for me, I wanted to plug in my very expensive USB only headset I usually use on my PC but that doesn’t work! So I’m now back to using the cheaper, less comfortable headset that requires both a USB and 3.5 stereo mic lead to be plugged in, but of course using it means I can only set my levels via Xbox One system settings.
What do YOU use? And have you found any good one’s made specifically for the Xbox One that allows mix and volume control while in-game?, If not, have you been able to customize anything to work well?
Yet again I need to beg for answers to this problem. I find it difficult to believe that other Spartans don’t care about this. PLEASE respond!
Astro A40’s and A50’s. I’ve used both and they’ve been great. The mixamp on the A40’s controls the game/voice volume and balance, and on the A50’s the controls are integrated into the headset.
I use a Tritton kamma headset, not a high end headset by any means but significantly better than Microsofts. It has a volume adjustment on the cord and is Stereo. Got mine for about $40.
When I first read the disappearing news quote about being able to use any headset w/mic simply by plugging in a single USB for it into the Xbox One side I was happy that I’d be able to use a “Real” and “Worthy” headset like the Cosair I use on my PC that has its own volume and mixing controls right on the plug in line. But as the truth came out that you still have to use the kind of headset we needed for the Xbox 360, that includes a separate line for its mic I realized this is just another money making scheme worked out between Microsoft and the various headset companies. There’s certainly no technical reasons for headsets like this anymore, and money would be saved by all concerned parties!
And this kind of problem also permeates other areas as well. For example, when I finally got my “Elite” controller I could not find a NiCad battery pack for it…just an AA battery box. And there’s very little I hate as much as having to buy batteries! Then “Holy Batteries, Batman!”, I found that the NiCad pack for the original controller was a perfect fit into the “Elite”. It provides power, and it is easy to charge with the otherwise useless charging cable that came with the “Elite”. But now I’m seeing something totally unexpected. Although the pack seems to work fine on the “Elite”, it certainly doesn’t hold a full charge as it did in the original controller. After leaving it charge for a full 24 hours, I only get about 2 to 4 hours of use with the “Elite” powered this way! What gives? When used in my regular controller It’ll run a full day after a 24 hour charge! Is the NiCad pack not fully chargeable when put into the “Elite”? Is it leaking or otherwise not holding a full charge? Could the “Elite’s” power needs that much more? Your thoughts and/or experiences would be appreciated!
