Need tips for Carbine and Suppressor

The suppressor is ridiculously difficult to use. Always getting beat by just about any other weapon. And I find the carbine isn’t to par with the DMR, LR or BR at their respectful range. I find it effective when you get somebody off guard, but on a normal 1v1, the other rifles walks around circles around me. Tips guys?

Pair the Carbine with the Thruster Pack, I beat BR users all the time with it

This is pre-buff loadout but give it a try.

Covenant Carbine
Magnum
Frags
Regen Field
AA Efficiency
Drop Recon

Great semi-offensive, teamwork class. Try to use Regen many times as you can. It is takes a little bit to be comfortable with it, but it’ll always give you the advantage.

I dominate with the Carbine, so I really don’t understand where you get that from.

(HINT: The Carbine is a master of strafing and clean up kills, it can be extremely effective in the right hands.)

Also, we can all agree that the Suppressor has the worst possible spread any weapon could ever have. It’s really only effective at super close ranges.

What SpartanT110 said, with the addition of strafing and keeping your reticle on your target’s head at (all) times.

This is what my primary loadout with carbine is:

Carbine (with skin because it looks -Yoink!-)
magnum
thruster

Now, this is where it becomes fun.

If you want to constantly use the thruster pack to screw with people, I recommend AA Efficiency, if not use shielding.

I personally use stability from the Rogue Specialization because it helps by negating the flinch recoil (from being hit by incoming fire) by a slight margin. If you don’t have it, I highly recommend the dexterity support upgrade, because that reload speed needs a buff.

I’ve doing pretty decent with it, getting an average of 13-14 kills on BTB (but also partly because I’m stupid and I always try to take on 3-4 enemies at once).

But it’s primarily a cleanup weapon and should be used as such. Once you become skilled with it, it overpowers the BR in a way.

As for the suppressor, I really can’t help you there, as I’ve only used it in SpOps and when I’m using my stealth loadout.

Try to setup loadouts to round out the weaknesses of your weapons and make their strengths even better. I have put together a few of loadouts to do just this:

Carbine

I paired the Carbine with Hologram and Stealth as it allows me to deceive my opponents and catch them off guard:

Carbine
Assault Rifle
Frags
Hologram
Firepower
Stealth

This loadout also allows me to avoid unwanted confrontations from multiple enemies; this is desirable as the Carbine dominates 1v1 situations. To deal with the slow reload I can either switch to my AR (close range) or fall back into cover (mid range).

Suppressor

The Suppressor is really only effective just outside of melee range, so you’ll want to get the drop on your enemies and have a ranged weapon for back up. I would suggest using the Magnum / BR or Carbine. The biggest strength of the Suppressor is its quick reload, use dexterity to make this an even bigger advantage.

Here are a couple of loadouts which can work quite well:

BR
Suppressor
Frags
Hologram
Firepower
Dexterity

Suppressor
Magnum
Frags / Pulse
Hologram / Active Camo
Resupply
Dexterity

As with any weapon that you struggle with my best advice would be to force yourself to use it. In time you will learn how to best use the weapon and become a force to be reckoned with.

Best tip I can offer for Carbine: stability perk. And don’t aim for center mass, headshots are required. Strafing doesn’t hurt, and keep pumping that trigger.

As for the suppressor, I earned my commendation pre-6/3 so I don’t really know how it behaves now. My recommendation would be to use hologram as a decoy so you can get the drop on your opponent – hit 'em first and pour it on.

The suppressor is a very very inconsistent weapon, as such its only good at very very close ranges. Either use Firepower to spawn with a rifle or pick one up ASAP, and then only use the Suppressor when your in range to do so (but I will say the suppressor needs a buff, not in power but in consistency)

The Carbine is an oddball at times. Someone already mentioned Stability which is a great way to give it more power, especially if your opponent doesn’t have it.

Also try pairing both of weapons with resupply or grenadier. But here are my two loadouts for these weapons

Carbine
-Boltshot
-Frags
-Promethean Vision (helps land the first shot)
-Resupply
-Stability

Suppressor
-Magnum (pick up a ranged rifle ASAP)
-Pulse Grenades
-Thruster Pack (really good in CQC)
-Grenadier
-Explosives (really good for surviving enemy grenades, pairs well with thruster for minimizing the explosive damage you take)

I also made 2 guides on these weapons if your interested;
Suppressor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF0K24TFXmE
Carbine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9epF5U8A97s

Some of my guides aren’t updated for the TU yet, but those 2 are, hope all this helps ^.^

yeah, I’ve been wanting to try out the carbine too, and this thread seems like it’s been pretty helpful. Definitely some things to try out.

Just leave Suppressor until 343i will re-tune it. Before TU it was very useful cqc weapon, but now it’s mere shadow of what it was (and suppose to be). You can try avoiding open spaces and suprising enemies with berserk attacks, but even in it’s niche Suppressor will lose to other weapons.

As for Carbine you just need to practice fast trigger finger. With that you can use it’s advantage of highter bullet magnetism, which means:

 1. Easier placing shots from distance. BR’s bursts tend to spread, but Carbine is still accurate with it’s sticky bullets. Just don’t be too far because LR or DMR will use it’s advantage of bigger scoped aim assist. Until that you will much easier place 7 shots with Carbine than 5 shots with DMR. From very far distance LR will kill you, so just avoid these kinds of fights.

 2. Carbine has around same niche as BR. It has very similar killtime, but if you practiced enought with trigger finger, it’s easier to kill opponent with 7 bullets than with 4 BR’s bursts, as you simply don’t have to aim that precisely (you can give more attention to mashing the trigger). Around 4-5 shot you should tend to aim for head. When opponent’s shield pops, Carbine’s bullet is the easiest way to perform headshot in Halo 4, which leads us to…

 3. In cqc melee > headshot tactic is more effective than with other precission rifles. It’s bullets really seems to likes headshots. Automatic rifles after TU are no match for this.

Just use Dexterity as you’ll reload a lot.

However your CSR says you need no advice

Bro, both the Carbine and the Suppressor have the fastest kill times in there respective classes and ranges. Not by much, but they do. Use them at there correct range, If you can’t do this then the only conclusion is that you suck.
