Need testers for 4v4 map+gametype "Endgame"

Hey all.

I’ve created a map and gametype based loosely off of the battle rooms in Enders Game. I need some volunteers to test it but unfortunately very few of my friends play H4, and those that do rarely go in for non-traditional gametypes – particularly those designed to have a slowish pace. I’d love it if some of you would download it, try it out and give me some feedback on the map, the settings, or both. The map, “Endgame,” and its associated gametype of the same name are available on my file share (Metus Hostilis). Thanks in advance for any comments and/or suggestions, and if you have questions feel free to message me on XBL.

Here’s a description:

Endgame is designed as a 4v4 Slayer variant, but it may also be entertaining 2v2 or 3v3. Basically, each team spawns in a small room facing a teleport. You have 10 seconds to get through the teleport into the main room, or you commit suicide and your team loses a point (this is to prevent camping). Every player is armed with a plasma pistol, a single pulse grenade and a hardlight shield.

Running through the teleport brings the teams face-to-face in a large rectangular room filled with obstacles. The teleport exits are located behind a one-way shield door (this is to prevent the other team from forcing their opponents to commit suicide by blocking the teleports).

There are a few grenades placed around the map and one Suppressor in the center. The room is a massive trait zone that confers low gravity, poor active camo and unlimited use of the hardlight shield. Ammunition is also unlimited. All players in the main room appear on radar and teammates have waypoints above their heads at all times so they can keep track of each other.

It’s rather like 3D paintball. The object is, of course, to kill the other team. You get 1 point for killing a member of the opposing team, 3 points if you manage an assassination. Respawns are synced so that the entire team respawns at the same time. I prefer this setup to rounds, because it keeps things interesting for the team that survives. If you kill off the opposing team of 4 players but 2 of you die, then when your opponents return it will be 2v4 in their favor until you both die.

The game goes to 20 points, which means you have to kill off the other team 5 times to win. There’s a 15-minute time limit as well.

I’m of course interested in all manner of feedback, but here are some things I’m particularly interested in:

  • Keep the active camo, or get rid of it?
  • Keep the unlimited use of hardlight shield, or should it exhaust?
  • Is the suppressor an appropriate power weapon?
  • If I made a CTF variant, would you play it?
  • Should the main room be larger?

To anyone who takes some time to give this a go, my eternal gratitude to you. I hope you enjoy yourself. Even if you don’t, I’d appreciate it if you could pass the map/game on to others so I can keep getting feedback.

Cheers,
Metus Hostilis
