Need strategy advice/tips with AR on Ragnarok

Hello everyone,

Right now I’ve been really really enjoying this loadout and I only play BTB.

Assault Rifle
Plasma Pistol
Frag
Jet Pack
Resupply
Explosives

It’s very exciting and face paced. Plus, it’s very useful on all the maps but one - Ragnarok…

Anybody, have any tips, suggestions, hints, strategy using this load out on Ragnarok?

This setup is awful on this map and it’s even worse when BOTH sides decide to DMR/Sniper Rifle camp and vehicle camp at the base.

Your suggestions will GREATLY be appreciated.

Don’t.

The AR is predominantly a close to mid range weapon, while Ragnarok is mainly a mid to long range map. Your best bet would be to stick to the caves by the Pelican and try to pick off players that pass by, but I’d reccomend a longer range weapon.

Unless you are fighting somebody around the hill, the ship, the turret hill, the rocks or the bases, I don’t see yourself be successful with the AR on this map without a friend backing you up.

If I may suggest, I’d swap Explosives with Gunner, and make your way to the turret. It’s like using the AR, but has larger range, does alot of damage and can hurt vehicles, as well as having a very short respawn timer. When you drop , it makes another pretty quickly.

Stay on cover, mantain yurself on enclosed spaces where CQC would be almost mandatory, don’t go to the open, you’ll die faster than you can say AR out there. Stay on movemint. Your best option would be the cave-like areas on the downed Pelican side.

With Sniper rifles and beams around, let alone DMRs, it is gonna be difficult unless you make your bread and butter the cave and in the centre…

I use either hard light to move cover to cover getting close to my target or dash and dodge shots with thruster pack.

You have a 1.66 K/D ratio on Rag & mostly use the DMR. I think you know what your doing on that map. Want to use an auto stick to the caves.

Thank you for your responses. I will try gunner, hardlight, and thruster packs.

The times that I did play I found myself defending the pelican, caves, and the hill. It’s really difficult to do since most of the time I will be outnumbered and by myself. When they come one at a time it’s fine.

However, being restricted to those spaces and waiting is a bit of a drag but I guess there’s nothing I can do about it. Once I got lucky and mongoosed my way over to the ememy base, killed the camo sniper and man-cannoned the eff outta there before the other could kill me. That was a rush but most of the time I die on my way to the base and just giving the enemy free mongoose kills.

Lunar Wolf, don’t get me wrong I know the map very well but I have just recently started playing with the AR, frankly, because I’m bored with the DMR and found the AR more exciting to use and want to stick with it at all times going forward.

I’m new with the AR, it’s hard to use on that particular map and I’m just not effective with it and posted on the forums to see if others could provide me with insight. I could always use another med/long range weapon other than the DMR but it leaves me playing the same style as I did with the DMR. I prefer not to do this.

Ragnarok is the map, where you’re choosing anything else than DMR only if you really don’t care about K/D ratio. I’m using Light Rifle just because I’m sick of this overpowered, boring 1-shot, but AR? Man, that’s totally hardcore.

If you want to use automatic rifles on BTB maps, then Meltdown is the best choice to begin with, Ragnarok is clearly the worst. I cannot imagine any strategy other than hiding in bases or caves near the pelican.

Isnt there some kind of perk or whatever that lets you have 2 main weapons? Maybe just have a loadout just for Rag that lets you spawn with AR and DMR? Otherwise you are toast there.

Dripping Nasty, thank you for your suggestion. The tactical package you are referring to is firepower. I find that since most people use a long range weapon on the map, I can easily pick one up if I choose to from fallen friends or foe.

Or when it’s CTF , Assault etc he could basically be back at the base and defending it.

Oh wait this is Halol 4 version of BTB with no Objectives.

I see what you did there.

That’s a tough primary weapon for a map like Ragnarok. it doesn’t lend itself to that weapon’s primary range.

I like a challenge as much as the next guy but you don’t make this one easy lol.

If you’re intent on sticking with the AR and not learning a new weaon, then patience is key. Hang out in the middle and wait for the enemy to approach. Hologram would be good for misdirection, giving you an important head start against the long range rifle opponents. Invisibility might be helpful too, especially around the Pelican.

I don’t see how that load out on that map is fast paced. You could only hang out in the bases or by the cave and pelican. Apart from that you will be missing out on a lot of kills.

A unique way to mix it up I guess.

Burst fire for long distances, use it primarily in close quarters spaces. Drop the Jetpack for hardlight shield to fend of grenades and drop frags for Plasma Grenades because its BTB and vehicles are useless.

If you can, you should sneak to the enemy base and harass them, from either up top or inside. The AR is a perfert close quarters weapons and its not a bad choice for Ragnarok if you want to have fun and know when to properly use it.

It sounds like a challenge your going for, which is pretty cool because everyone uses the DMR so they wont suspect close quarters engagements with a person using the AR.

You might want to swap your plasma pistol with magnum. It can help a lot against long range users.

Burst fire it keeps it more accurate and a heck of alot more deadly also points + for using the AR on a large map.

In CTF work on sneaking into the other team’s base. You can do this after waiting until either the mantises are away from the river or destroyed. Follow the river on the side of the large wall and stay down in the trench. People don’t check these spots as often as they should. Once in the base it’s all yours. People dont like to see ARs in their base.

In BTB try moving in on the sides and control the caves and pelican. I’d suggest you have the hard light shield for this or hologram.
