Need some help with zero bloom :/

I’ve been playing some zero bloom online. It’s fun, but I kinda suck at it. I’m losing a lot of DMR fights. I know it’s because my opponents are better than me, but I’m looking for ways to get better at my dmr and pistol fights.

For some reason, I don’t feel like moving my reticule much during a fight. I’m thinking it’s because of bloom.

Any tips appreciated.

a good strafe helps here. do you know the ‘SK’ strafe?

basically you just mash left right left right over and over and over. for them it looks like you are twitching left and right, but its very distracting and hard to aim at when done properly, especially if you throw in some variance like

left right left right left right STOP RIGHT AGAIN. STOP. RIGHT again, etc.

im talking super fast. as fast as possible, really. if you dont break your joystick you are doing it wrong (jokes, but you get the idea lol)

also, its important in the title updated playlists to aim for the head. this is because damage bleeds thru shields now. even when their shields arent popped, you can still get a headshot because of damage bleedthru. aiming for the head is basically mandatory now, if you want to play optimally.

  • Most beginners tend to walk in a straight line while attacking someone, never do that unless you KNOW you will kill them.
  • Always do the unexpected!
  • Beginners also tend to ignore people on the radar because they think they can escape, never do this! Never ignore people ever!
  • Never rush, let them come to you. By doing that it’s easy to stay plus in the game.
  • Always use every weapon (In Halo 3 i find every weapon useful).
  • Learn jumps (Makes it easy to escape from people).

It doesn’t seem to work very well with the default speed of Reach. But yes, strafing is the best thing you can do. I’d rather use short and variable strafe patterns, not as short as the SK, but still short. Not only because it works better with Reach, but also because it’s easier for beginners. (SK strafe may be hard if you’re already not good at strafing to time and come up with variables correctly) Jumping could also be useful from time to time, but not overused.

Although I personally prefer a well designed map over Octagon, I have to admit that Octagon is a pretty good place to hone your strafing skills, it also helps a huge amount with your aim.

one of the biggest switches i found playing Zero Bloom is now it pays to spam the trigger at all ranges. my brain had already decided (in vanilla reach) how fast i should pull the trigger on the DMR. all of that training is now moot. keep the reticule on the player and pull the trigger as fast as you can.

Not exactly, it’s useless to fire a shot if your reticle is not on the opponent. This is why you still need to time your shots for the moments your reticle is actually on the opponent. While the time between your shots is much shorter, just spamming the trigger as fast as you can is useless.

its not spamming if everyone is shooting the same speed. spamming is shooting FASTER than normal.

Thanks for the advise guys. I looked up the sk strafe, and now I really want to do it. So aiming all 5 shots at the head is better than 4 body, 1 head?

A bodyshot doesn’t do any more damage than a headshot on shields BUT any bleedthrough damage from a headshot on health will kill instantly.

Suppose a DMR shot does 25dmg.
If the other person has 30 shields and 100 health then both a body shot or a headshot will take them to 5 shields and 100 health.
However if the other person has 20 shields and 100 health then a headshot will kill instantly while a bodyshot will only take them down to 0 shields and 95 health.

So it is only the last shot which needs to be a headshot, however obviously you don’t know for certain when the last shot will be. If they have 100 shields it will be the fifth whereas if they have 99 then it will be the fourth; 50 the third, while 49 the second. The point is that if you always aim for the head then it can sometimes save you a shot, despite being slightly harder to hit.

Personally I suggest 3 body then 2 head.

In addition to the things mentioned above. You might consider lowering your look sensitivity some.
