I read rumors that Spartan Ops Episodes 6-10 just might include Scarabs, and the thought of 3 of my friends and myself fighting Scarabs in Scorpions and Mantises “or is it Manti” either way you want to say it, it sounds pretty cool to me.
Screw fighting scarabs, I wanna DRIVE ONE! or at the very least, ride one to defend it while it causes awesome chaos amongst the silly aliens who thought it was on their side.
I wanna fly one of the Broadswords, -Yoink- the Scarabs.
nonononono NO!
Best idea ever: drop us from orbit over requiem with nothing but our armor and thruster packs for maneuvering… during a massive space fight, so we have to avoid phantoms, liches, banshees, plasma bolts, and the occasional cruiser.
I doubt that we’ll do that, because Spartan Ops has hardly introduced anything new. We’ve just seen things from the campaign and multiplayer modes, taken and altered slightly with each passing week. The best we can probably expect out of Spartan Ops, in my opinion, would be a level based off of the Level Reclaimer, where you board and destroy a Lich.

That’s a great idea. We were going to do that in Reach prior to the level The Package, but then Bungie had to make some cuts…
It’s really disappointing that we’ve never been able to do that before. We should totally be able to commandeer a Scarab when Spartan Ops returns. I doubt it will happen since, as I’ve stated, Spartan Ops largely retreads things seen in the Campaign and War games.

This is a great idea too! Hopefully 343i could successfully pull off such a feat. Even if it is based off of the campaign (like most things in Spartan Ops), it sounds like something which would be hard to design for the net-code cooperative gaming in mind.

“Hard to design for the net code for cooperative gaming”? What on earth are you on about? You can play co op on that section absolutely fine without problems so I don’t see how difficult it’d be.

I recall that there was difficulty with integrating spaceflights into Halo: Reach’s multiplayer, so playlists involving Sabers never ended up in the final game. I presumed the same could happen for Halo 4 with Broadswords.
We never said matchmaking, we want broadswords in Spartan Ops.
> We never said matchmaking, we want broadswords in Spartan Ops.
I know, but Spartan Ops involves matchmaking as well. Just to make it clear I’m not talking about War Games.
Hopefully it adds something new, because I have to say guys, I am normally a very “positive poster” but today I played H4 for the first time in about two weeks and it felt boring.
In case no one saw it, there was a Broadsword featured in the 6-10 trailer, so I’m fairly positive we get to use one again in spops
Not just scarabs but I hope they will add more maps and gameplay variety to SpOps including; Scarabs, Pelican driving, Longsword flying, massive warthog and scorpion attacks on an open field, stealth ops, mongoose chases, timed bomb defusal, escort missions, something with an elephant/mammoth and more A.I. controlled spartan teams to help Crimson kick Yoink

You couldn’t ride scarabs for the same reason you cannot ride Hunters.

I don’t recall Hunters having a problem with me standing on their heads…
Pfft scarabs? I’d rather drive the mammoth

He means that you can’t control a Scarab because they’re basically giant quadrupedal Hunters. Their “guts” are made of the same Lekgolo worms Hunters are made from, making driving them like a regular vehicle impossible. (unless they bring back the Halo 2-era mining Scarab that had a Covie crew driving it.) The Halo 3 multiplayer map Assembly showed the Covie plant that injects the Lekgolo colonies inside the Scarab carapaces.
Given everything about Spartan Ops seems to be limited to features already seen in Campaign and War Games, I’d say the most we can hope for is a Lich boarding or Broadsword space fight segment. Maybe a Pelican piloting part or a Mammoth escort if we’re lucky.

gee I can’t wait to replay these parts of the campaign again!
Just let us control the infinity fleet

Seriously though, isn’t that basically Spartan Ops in a nutshell? Little chunks of campaign settings tweaked a little and more enemies for co-op with bad dialogue and silly far-fetched objectives tacked on? Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of having an episodic ongoing storyline bridging the gap between full sequels, but SpOps has been underwhelming thus far, to say the least. The cinematic episodes are great, but there’s such a lackluster disconnect between the plot presented in the cutscenes and the actual missions.
