Need Help, Xbox Red Ringed.

My Xbox Red Ringed, Cooling error or something.
I took off the plastic case and cleaned out all of the ducts and ventilation holes to see if it would work, It didn’t, I think it has something to do with the fan, but I didn’t want to pull it apart because I’m paranoid I might break it.
Do I give it to a professional, trash it, or get an external fan?
Halo 4 is only a couple dozen days away.

how many rings does it have?

2 Vertical.
This was the worst possible time for it to do this.

I think that means it overheated, just let it sit for a while and see if it works then.
if the problem continues, you may need to clean it.

you can wipe it off with a dry cloth and/or try to give it more ventilation space. But DO NOT put any liquids or compressed air in it.

If you need it to be cleaned more, i think you can send it to microsoft to be cleaned, but you may need to pay for that.

That’s what I was afraid of.
Tooke it apart again, the fan is FILLED with crap, I think if I can just re-open it I can pull it out with a dry cloth and clean it thoroughly enough.

yeah, that should work.

and I’m pretty sure opening up the xbox voids the warranty but depending on how long you’ve had it, it could’ve been done already.

just be careful, a similar thing happened to a 360 of mine, i used compressed air, it started wrecking disks. so keep an eye on the center ring of your game disks for a little after you clean it, check for small fractures. you should be fine, but just in case.

just tell me if you need more help.

Yeah, the thing is 5 years old. (Which is a pretty damn good run, what’s the average life span, 3?) plus I already opened it twice, kind of messed up the casing a bit, but it should be fine, have to put the eject button back in later, I’ll make another post tomorrow on this thread, (if it doesn’t get pushed off the map by then.)

If all else fails, start getting some funds together to get a new one…

Yeah, it doesn’t work ,just cleaned it out completely and everything.
Guess it’s new Xbox for me then.
How much do harddrive-less xboxs run for these days?

If you still got the manual it explains all the things you need to do if its overheated, wich it might be very posible, let me try to search some.

$200 on Amazon

Sadly, Halo 4 requires at least 8GB of space for a mandatory install, so you’ll have to invest in a hard drive, as far as I know, hard drives from the old consoles don’t fit the Slim.

Oh, I just need an old XBox with no Hard Drive, I had an Elite from 2008 with 120gigs so all I need is a cheap piece of.

> Sadly, Halo 4 requires at least 8GB of space for a mandatory install, so you’ll have to invest in a hard drive, as far as I know, hard drives from the old consoles don’t fit the Slim.

The hard-drives from the old consoles are just SATA drives with a proprietary connector. The Slims eliminate that proprietary connector and just use a SATA port. So yes, hard-drives from older consoles DO fit Slims, at the cost of voiding your HDD’s warranty.

Red Ring…ahhh…music to my ears.

TCC, get the new one for $200. Regarding the hard drive, the one built in is 4GB. You need 8GB for Halo. Just get a second internal hard drive. the 20GB is $30 and the 250GB is $64 at best buy. Unfortunately, when i got mine, it was about $100. But check them out.

I found this on the official manual

Flashes red: the console is too hot and will not play games until cooled down. Place the console in a well-ventilated area away from other heat sources and unblock all vents. Once it cools, the flashing will stop and the console can be played.

Solid red: follow the instructions on the screen to correct problems.

Solid red, no on-screen instructions: Internal problem that requires service. Visit www.xbox.com/support to requwst service.

Am not responsoble for any damage or other things to your console.

yeah, you can just use you current hard drive on a new xbox. you could also get a 360-S and use a transfer cable, but there is a chance of data loss when use the transfer cable.

Here are some links to some old-type 360’s. (most should be 360 Elite’s)
