Need help installing Halo 2 Vista

Today I got a new laptop! It’s pretty decent but I can’t play Halo 2 for some reason. These are my specs:

Dell Inspiron 2nd Gen N5110
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel(R)Core i7 series @2.20GHZ (with turbo boost to 3.1)
6GB memory
500GB HDD
and Nvidia GeForce GT 525M - 1 GB.

You can choose whether to use intergrated graphics or the Nvidia when right clicking on the shortcut.

Okay so. I can get through all of the installation process, but when the game goes to launch, nothing happens. I’ve tried unistalling several times, but nothing happens.

I don’t know what to do. I got Halo CE to run perfectly on max… so.

Do you have the latest version of NVIDIA installed? Latest version of Java? And also, maybe it has something to do with you using a 64-bit? I really don’t know, seems to work fine on my laptop and i have worse specs, but i do have 32-bit.

Well it was made the other day (I got it ‘custom built’) and apparently it has all the up to date drivers and whatnot.

I don’t get it though. I can install everything, even activate it… but just not play it. Doesn’t make sense. Didn’t really think about the 64bit… Wonder if that’s the reason…

I pirated Halo 2 Vista long while back (shame on me, since deleted it) and I was allowed to play and I was on a 64-bit laptop, so it is not 64-bit causing it.

Hmmm. Just read something that said the coding in Halo 2 Vista disregards the Nvidia GeForce GT 525M.

I’ll keep on looking, but it’ll be disappointing if that’s the case.

Make sure you download the latest update for the game, You might need to download the Windows LIVE client, also try running the game as an administrator of you haven’t already. Good luck I hope this helps.

From what I understand, whether or not Halo 2 Vista works on Windows 7 64 bit is hit or miss. Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows Vista.

That’s your problem. The game sometimes doesn’t work with that graphics card. No idea why though.

Halo 2 (PC) works fine on Windows 7 64 bit from what I heard, but I may be mistaken.

Hmph. I wonder if I can get it to run with the integrated graphics… at least.

I got the game working on my other laptop which is the same, but not this one. It’s odd.

Are all your drivers up to date?

I hope it works on my computer.

> Are all your drivers up to date?

Everything is all updated. I can run Crysis on high, Crysis 2 on Medium and BF3 on medium too… but not Halo 2.

Have you checked your Event Viewer to see if there is an AppCrash log for Halo 2 Vista? It’ll tell you the problem file that’s causing it to crash. Also, check Task Manager to see if your computer already has a running process of Halo 2. Sometimes it won’t boot right, and if you keep trying to run it over and over, it’ll just sit there and do nothing because the computer thinks it’s already running. End the Task in Task Manager if it’s running and then try running it again.
