Any UNSC have any tips for taking on Cutter? Im probably not going to find any good strats for Forge but how does any other UNSC take on his infantry balls especially at tier one? Even an entire army population of anti infantry still got me crushed against Solid HW. Should i just try to turtle a bit? I feel like that just loses me the game later. Ive considered skipping the second rolling economy upgrade and getting Heavy Metal instead so i can survive longer against his infantry but then it seems like he can just run away and engage later.
Snipers and flamers, you would have to micro the snipers and flamers. Nifty little tid bit, the higher you are the more damge you will do and less you will receive from the target below.
Have you already been told that Forge is too weak? Because that’s the first thing before even talking strats. Very bad match-up.

Im aware that this is probably true, but i need to make sure im doing everything i can to compete in the match up.
This is so hard. I’d say focus on eco, tech and defense. But even if you tech-up, Tech 2 > Tech 3. And Cutter has guaranteed building damage (almost guaranteed building takedown actually !!!) with ODST drops. He wins the base trade.
How good are Hornets in this match?

terrible because hes already massing marines and ODST’s and need only build a few wolves to complement it
Cutter has no anti vehicle in tech 1, so maybe ForgeHog+Rabbits+Heavy Metal?

I may try this, althoguh i feel like rabbits are still weak and get utterly stomped once tech 2 comes around

Just curious, are you using Forgehog? Shouldn’t it give your marines some buffs and because it is a vehicle then it would have an advantage over infantry. That is on T1 at least. Just curious.
I always take Heavy Metal 1 and 2 over Rolling Economy 2. Against Cutter infantry spam I’ve found that Forge Hog, snipers, and Marines do work. I don’t bother with grenade Marines since I’m already putting an enormous amount of power into Forge’s hog and anvil round, then snipers. The downside of it is it delays tech 2 by an amazing amount so you really have to capitalize on it.
That’s what I use against Cutter when going Forge, personally.
Yeah I think skipping rolling eco 2 and using jackrabbit/ forgehog is going to be my attempt at forge vs cutter. Just need to capitalize on the fact that I know he will mass marines.
Flamer and pelican transport rush. If that doesn’t work, resign.

Jerome over Cutter buddy. just go jackrabbits and pick off the infantry before they get to the group and once your army is bigger and you have your hero push for the win. However I know Solid and you won’t beat him unless you improve your own skills no matter what UNSC you play. Unless you played ship then you gotta chance cuz ship is a cutters worst nightmare.

What makes ship so good against cutter?

Cutter is only good because of UNSC Raid 2. He can out run everyone but Jerome. Ship has many teleports and you cannot out run that. For example lets say he infantry balls you early, you build ghost and suicide grunts you can teleport your suicide grunts into his army and blow it up. Mid game you go anti everything(hunters reavers elite ranger locust) and with a sprinkle of suicide grunts.
Mass build Flames and snipes.
This is really the only thing I’ve seen get ahead of him and you can 100% win the game after you smash his army with yours.
In my own opinion. You wait for the tech 2. My build order usually is
Supply x2
Marine
Heavy supply
Generator
Heavy supply
Generator
Jack rabbit x2
Generator
Mini base
Turret
Supply pad
Turret
Marine/jackrabbit x3
Once you get tech 2 go for the warthog/ hornet mix. Genally keep more hogs unless the cutter is playing infantry heavy and has a barracks and airpad. Dont go the 2nd base until you scout and have a good hog population. Mixing jackrabbits with the hogs is a good thing as well if you got the drone upgrade. Since they keep the army viable for longer since they heal themselves.
I play 3v3 though so im not sure the viability in 1v1
You’re just not going to win the matchup
I played against Forge recently, he’s actually one of my only non banished losses (I haven’t lost to a jerome since the update).
He rushed out the Forgehog, and that was essentially game. The forgehog is virtually impervious to marines and grenades…if he ever did start to take damage, he would use the stun ability and get out. He also would use the inspire around other marines and he dominated me from the start.
If you use the Forgehog opener, you will run through Cutter as he is the perfect counter to anything Cutter offers. If you don’t use the Forgehog, you will almost certainly lose. Oddly cut and dry, but the Forgehog will give you an easy W!

Win the first engagement. I find against Cutter’s once they get beat back once it’s very hard for them to establish a strong map presence as you know what they’re going to build since they spent 2 LP into raid. Here are some ways to do it:
-
Defender’s advantage. If you’re fighting on your side of the map and assuming an even marine pump from both sides, you will have more units. More units will beat less units regardless of speed.
-
Eco advantage: As forge you should be able to field more units faster than cutter assuming you both commit to the infantry push.
-
Heavy Metal: The second rolling eco upgrade isn’t that important in my opinion. Heavy Metal will win you a fight in a balanced engagement.
-
Commit Harder: Most Cutter players don’t go all out infantry rush, so if you rush harder you will win. Try out a Sup (upgrade), Sup (upgrade), Sup, Sup, Gen opening with a single early minibase for the ForgeHog and the double marine pump. Get Grenade throw as well. I guarantee you will not have a problem winning the first fight and controlling the map

Remember - Raid does not make Cutter stronger, only faster. The best way to beat someone faster than you is to be stronger and beat the -Yoink- out of them lol.
