Need Halo 4 Armor Back?

I simply think Halo 4’s armor was the best looking and was some of the best of the franchise. The undersuit, the positioning of the armor on the spartan’s body, it all just felt better than Halo 5’s armor. What does everyone think?

Nope it is just as bad as the majority of the H5 armor.

The only armor sets that I think should be brought back from Halo 4 are Prefect and Ricochet. They’re actually decent, yet they only came out in a DLC pack that was just forgotten.
What I really want to see again, though, is OG Rogue. The new Rogue is just so ugly.

The coloring is 100% better though. And the MK IV and V in Halo 5 just look horrid. Halo 4’s MK V was my favorite version of it.

My H4’s spartan had a ricochet shoulder pad (I loved the plating on those things) on his right and ODST on his left, compete with a MK VI (I think) torso & MK V helm. I miss that spartan, I worked so hard on him just to lose him to my glossy, ridiculous looking Halo 5 spartan.

i agree, they need to bring back some of the H4 armor. (I loved the old orbital design).

Halo 4 is where armor design took a horrible turn. Armor design is not a strength of 343. I don’t mind the concept/look of Gen 2, but the armors themselves look absolutely ridiculous (there are exceptions, of course). A small percentage of weird designs in the armory is fine, but with 343 it’s a small percentage of normal designs and the rest are crazy looking. If they would’ve just built on the designs Bungie came up with for Reach things would be much better. Instead we have a ton of armors that don’t seem to fit into the Halo-verse.

I liked it alot and I actually really like halo 5 armor too. I’m not sure why everyone seems to hate the halo 5 armor, there are.plenty of options, and then visors, weapon skins, and more.

Halo 4 is where 343 embraced these dumb colored undersuits and lack of lower abdominal armor anyway.

That being said, I’d like to see H4’s Prefect, EOD, and ODST (with a Reach base style helmet) return,

I think Halo 4 and 5 have the absolute worst armor in the franchise. They all look so incredibly un-Halo. And not just that, but they look bad in general. And not to mention the colored undersuits instead of straight black.

Don’t pay attention to these people OP, They haven’t taken an art design class before otherwise they would know how bad single color undersuit and bad/good armor design works. Halo 4 had less if these stupid white lines and had better looking designs then Halo 5.

Also so the colored undersuit is only colored in the abs, chest, shoulders, Crotch and feet. They have More armor plates in those areas in previous halo games, they resigned them to be more realistic as far as movement. To make it feel more part of the suit they added color to where the playing used to be so it feels more like one suit, not armor tacked to a weaker sectioned cat suit. It works, and if you took the time to examine this you would realize that a black undersuit with none of the colored sections would make the Spartan look cartoony, and make the suit look like it has weak spots instead of it being a single piece of armor.

Sorry, I didn’t know an art degree was required to appreciate pixels on my screen…

Why would you declare an art course as a prerequisite for looking at armor design, that only alienates probably a majority of the community just to validate YOUR opinion.

The Halo CE, 2, 3, and Reach armors all had more armor, yet the Spartan’s still ran at 30+ mph and performed flips and acrobatic maneuvers in books and cinematics, so there doesn’t seem to have been a need to completely remove the codpiece. Look at the H4 Master Chief, they removed the side gaurds, but his undersuit wasnt super colored and obtrusive. They left the part on his groin colored in combination with the armor strip on his abdomen. He didn’t need all the colors to bring his armor together, but he had a few colored accents to fill in a couple of details. The vast majority was a snakeskin black. His armor had enough lower/mid abdomen coverage while maintaining a respectable mobility profile.

Furthermore, you note that the colored undersuit helps bring the armor together, making it less cartoony and less ‘weak spots.’

If armor relies on the undersuit to provide coverage, doesn’t that present a problem with the armor in the first place?

EDIT: You were also on the Undersuit thread again shrugging off opinions because of ‘art design.’

The problem is that they tried focusing to much on being able to move in the armor when it’s a video game and we just want the armor to look cool. Halo reach had the best looking armor with the ammo pouches on it or shotgun shells or sniper bullets on your shoulders. In halo 5you look like a power ranger and you have a preset chest piece you can’t even mix and match your shoulder pads.

Other than the poor lighting effect causing the armor to glow and look cartoonish what’s different? They all look about the same to me with the exception of a few different ones and less customization

Agree with the others, the majority of Halo 4s armour was the point where Halos armours became less distinct and recognisable. Horrible designs, horrible desaturated colours. The only armours that were specifically any good in Halo 4 were the ones added in as DLC.

I think you meant to say Reach lol

Halo 4? No… That was the beginning of the Space rangers XD The only good armor was Mark V and that was based on an earlier model. I don’t want to be a bungie fanboy, but they knew how to make Armor, they made some really cool freaking armor on their way out.

Used not only by cover artist on books, the cole protocol, But in a live action Halo, Kelly’s armor in Forward unto dawn. And that was just the basic model of Mark V which 343i attempted at and didn’t do so well (Granted its one of the better armors in game)

If were just taking 4 and 5 armours into account I would rather have 4. Yes we wouldn’t have classics like Security, Noble or Helljumper but we also wouldn’t have stupid white paint all over each armour piece or 50 visors with almost no difference.

Its all about quality of quantity.

They need to bring back some Halo 4 armour and the degree of customization with it. We wouldn’t unlock everything separately, we’d unlock the entire set (Minus the helmet) and from there, you could customize your arms, legs, shoulders, etc

Not even close

First off, I like the Gen 2 concept/aesthetic as I said in an earlier post. Second of all, some industrious community members have already posted images of spartans photoshopped to have black undersuits and the response in those threads was overwhelmingly positive. I know I liked it. Third, Halo 4 having less “stupid white lines” than Halo 5 doesn’t make the Halo 4 armor good, but I don’t think you’ll find too many people here that are in favor of the busy, color-locked skins in Halo 5. I haven’t seen anyone criticizing Halo 4/5 armor designs and praising the skins in Halo 5. Lastly, if you’re mass-marketing a product that requires an art design degree to appreciate then you’ve failed.
