Usually i wouldnt touch this weapon because I hate it with a burning passion. But since I tend to play a lot of ffa I’ve had massive issues ever since I hit diamond rank. Before id just use my magnum over the AR until i found a better weapon to swap that cancerous automatic piece of trash out for. But now ill end up getting deathstreaks until i can grab a br or dmr, mostly due to being killed by ARs. Ill be honest i suck bad with the AR, and storm rifle, i can make the smg sing but the load out when i spawn doesnt help me much. The amount of times some beats me down with an AR to melee is irritating.
First off, pick up Storm Rifle any time you can. The weapon Melts.
Best way to use the automatics is keep your aim dynamic and sweeping across the target and lead slightly ahead. You don’t want to keep the reticule in one place cause you’ll consistently miss at times. Also, rapid pulse fire and/or scope cause you’ll shoot more accurately.
Know the map and ways to move around it so you get the drop on players or juke them. Map movement can cover up flaws with shooting. If someone thrusts, counter by thrusting in the same direction as them cause it will throw off their aim. Another tip I’ve seen a top player do is thrust toward your enemy then force them to have to turn around. Of course, you have to make these decisions at the right time.
Other than that, use the Magnum because you can steal kills. FFA is about correct map movement/placement, timing, and choosing the targets with low health. Magnum will help pick them off if all those things are lined up.
My tips for using the AR
Are you ready?
Swap to the pistol
Seriously tho, the AR is strictly CQC if you are using it outside of CQC you’re doing it wrong
You can’t expect to beat BRs DMRs or anything else at range with a CQC weapon
My number one pet peeve is the Spartan charge AR noob combo, its essentially become toe equivalent of the sprint double melee form reach

Cheers, its a shame about the whole ranking system because I like to play ffa for fun not all out to win, but since i’m diamond 4 im playing much better players than me who usecmap knowledge I dont have, and unless im playing hardball i get killed over and over. I dont usually bother learning spawns etc, i tend to go on instinct and learn where high traffic areas are.

Yeah sprint charging is the worst thing they put into this game, I’m sick and tired of nooby spartan charges. Iv resorted to finding plas grenades and sticking anyone who charges me so they die too.

There have been worse things in Previous Halos. But yeah, Sprint+Charge is ridiculous in FFA. I was doing horrible a while back then resorted to only using that tactic and usually got a kill before dieing and placed high consistently.

Yeah its frustrating, i cant get tha hang of the charge. I can do disgusting things with the ground pound though. I think im gonna have a rough time as my method of aiming is more geared towards precision weapons than full auto. 2 years of playing hand cannons and fusion rifles in destiny and god knows how long i spend destroying people with my br in halo 4 has ruined me for this format.
Switch to ar when you have been using precision a lot cause it will catch them of guard a bit.
What I do a lot is start with my pistol or br should from a corner as soon as I get hit a do a fake retreat round the corner they come after me but are expecting a pistol but get the ar instead and take some time to react.

yeah you can get massive double kills with pistol just hitting people in the head that are fighting amongst themselves.
I use pistol on diamond too…but I do use AR when necessary… you must have situational awareness… or be a god with pistol headshots… in that case there is no problem
Storm Rifle is absolutely beast in this game, basically a better SMG. I think it kills in something like 8 shots.
Swap the AR out for Storm Rifle every chance you get, especially in FFA. The gun is unforgiving because it overheats quickly but when you get a feel for how to lead the shots & burst it without wasting any shots, it just shreds people. I get lots of double & triple kills with SR without it overheating.
As for the assault rifle, you just gotta feather the trigger. Crouch & use slide often.
I switched Recon control scheme so that crouch is on the left stick and set it to hold-to-crouch so that I can easily crouch and uncrouch while in a fight. Really helps with using automatics.
yeah…the AR is all people use in FFA…they camp the corners and just melt anyone who gets near them.

I honestly preferred when the AR was useful out to mid range in Beta.
That’s kinda how an ASSAULT RIFLE is designed to work! Not that most of these BR fanboys know a damn thing about weapons and weapon functionality.
AR takes more skill than people give it credit for, its extremely versatile and can kill at range if you tap fire
I say just use pistol and don’t miss, all guns have an optimal range so don’t push close quarters situations. In FFA I never get up close and personal. If I don’t have snipe or rockets I’m pistolling, looking for a rifle on map. I used to be all about the AR until I realized you will almost never beat a skilled BR 1v1, and you are an assist machine.
But what Lupinthrope is saying is absolutely true. The AR requires more precision than any weapon in game. That center dot should be aimed at center mass (chest or belly) on your target until shields pop, then I notice I get quicker kills if I put the center dot on their head while shooting at a unshielded target. So instead of aiming on somebody for 5 shots with the pistol, a perfect AR kill can never leave a target while shooting so it is definitely a skill weapon. Aiming that well requires predicting strafing patterns and maintaining optimal AR range which is easier said than done… it requires some luck and is highly situational. Ultimately the pistol is the weapon you should have equipped to deal with any situation.

Yh its all i use tbh, i only switch to ar as a fall back
Yeah for Halo Reach and Halo 4 it seemed easy to dominate AR’s with accurate pistol shots but not so much in H5. The AR, SMG, and SR are taking me down at close to mid-close. I do agree that AR does take more skill than people think. I don’t have that skill yet. I honestly never used AR regularly and have been playing since Halo CE.
I use the AR because im more of a close quarters person and when id do go out mid range I immediately switch to the magnum. In H4 I dominated with the BR but the BR in H5 does not feel the same at all… plus its really ugly. ALSO THE STORM RIFLE IS AMAZING the amount of quick kills you can get with it in FFA I rush into a group of people somtimes up to 6 and obliterate them all!!!

Why would you respond to an almost 5 month old post?
