Big Team Battle (BTB) has always been a staple of the Halo franchise. Its vehicular combat, awesome maps, and all around amazing gameplay are hard to match. However, in Halo 5, BTB is a bit lackluster. Now, I recognize Halo 5 has Warzone, which in and of itself is fun, but BTB is still a fan favorite and deserves more attention. Here are the changes I propose:
Maps:
Halo 5’s BTB maps are not all that great. There are some that are amazing, like Deadlock and Basin, that should be kept. Unfortunately, the rest, mainly Recurve and Antifreeze, are pretty bad and should be removed. However, there is still hope BTB’s map rotation for the community has built some amazing maps. Some of these great community maps include Sandtrap (Sandtrap Remake), Halvalla (Vahalla Remake), Station 7 (Terminal Remake), and Scavenger (Original). I and many others would really like to see these maps playtested and released in the upcoming update. (Feel free to suggest more BTB maps that should be implemented/removed)
Gamemodes:
It would also be nice to see some new gamemodes, especially assault, implemented to mix things up. Strongholds does get boring after a while. One bomb assault was always fun to play on BTB maps.
Vehicles:
One of the best things about BTB is its vehicular combat. However, due to all Halo 5’s spartan abilities, vehicles are no longer as powerful as they once were. This is only made worse by the fact that vehicle boarders are invincible. Vehicles should receive a ever so slight buff and boarders should be vulnerable. This would return vehicles to the legendary status they once had in BTB.
REQ/XP:
Finally, more XP and REQ points need to be given for BTB games since they last longer than traditional arena games. They should award around the same amount of exp/REQ points as a Warzone Assault game since they can last as long.
I agree with every point however I feel any concerns regarding BTB have been falling on deaf ears for a long time.
They seem to want to distance themselves from BTB, despite it being one of the most popular playlists over Halos lifespan and one of the most iconic. It seems like they don’t want to take focus away from Warzone because they have to shift those REQ packs some how?
I agree, should also add that these maps are in my favorites: Altar, Burial Mounds, Confinement, Cradle, Deadline, Gephyrophobia, Halvalla V1, Hazard Valley, Ice Fields, Sandtrap Classic 1.04.
The size is the biggest thing that needs to change about the maps. They are too small and congested. Spawns are not so great either…but that happens on all the maps.
I think that If they gave btb its own catorory, not just under arena, more people would play it.
Being in the EU, I havent found a btb match in the last month…which is a real shame.
I agree with most of what you said. I disagree with the vehicles…but I’ve never been much of a fan of having all out vehicular warfare.
Definitely agree with better maps and having one bomb assault. I also think one flag would be good as well. Although they would have to create maps that would support those types of gameplay. (Zanzibar is a good Off/Def map that comes to mind as an example).
After playing recurve a few times I gave up BTB altogether. ITs nothing like BTB of the prior games. Now when I want to plat BTB I simply play MCC. By far its the most fun you can have. . the choice of playing CE thru 4 is great not to mention game modes. IT NEVER Gets boring. I personally love CE the best. That 3 shot kill pistol rules. Graphics could be better on CE and 2 , but still its a lot of fun to play.
I play BTB all the time, I do not have an issue w/ Recurve or Antifreeze. I actually would like them to include Guillotine more. Boarding is only an issue with tanks (maybe mantises too), splash damage from the tank’s cannon should be able to kill/damage boarders.
Assault gametypes would be especially welcome though.
I like what the OP has to say. Similarly, not wild about Recurve and Antifreeze (as well as Entombed).
To me, the biggest problem is the dynamic spawns on the symmetrical maps. That needs to end. Basin, Deadlock, etc…red team spawns at red base, blue team spawns at blue base. If you get spawn camped, get spawn camped. But the amount of times a team loses map control because the enemy spawns behind them is ridiculous.

The lighting in Recurve was terrible unless they have fixed it. Then there is the issue of just one tank for teams to fight over. That sinks when compared to prior games where multiple vehicles spawn at both ends of the map so there is no shortage. Then there is the issue of how cramped recurve is. They put a tank on the map with very little room to maneuver. The tank normally gets destroyed with in 30 seconds due to its location and lack of routes. the other maps lack vehicles in general .

Splash damage is not a thing in Halo 5 from what I’ve observed. I could be wrong though but I am pretty sure I have seen others attest to that as well here on waypoint.
My Opinion but, They don’t care about BTB because it doesn’t have REQ$. Why put that much effort into a game mode when you can push your new game mode that also has REQs which helps you make more money?
