The National Grifball Association (NGA) at Grifball.net is a newer, competitive Grifball league dedicated to providing a chance for everybody to participate, having few but clearly defined rules, bringing other Halo communities into the world of Grifball, and trying some new approaches and unique events so that a fun time can be had by all.
The National Grifball Association at Grifball.net is holding our second BOMB - the NGA ScoreFest - this Sunday, July 15th at 6pm Eastern (3pm Pacific).
Signups are now open, and close at 5pm Eastern, one hour before the event starts. As always ALL players are welcome!
Join us as we play a new Grifball variant with a twist - one 15 minute round that doesn’t end when a bomb is scored - a 3v3 match - and no maximum score. The team with the most points when the timer runs out wins!
The map and gametype will be posted on Grifball.net Saturday afternoon.
Thanks to all who competed in our ScoreFest last weekend, and congratulations to Do the Sandusky Shuffle, captained by NGA Admin Rage More Nerd and his teammates NOPLEX and Priest XYZ, our winners for the tournament!
All in all, we had a mostly positive reaction to this exciting new gametype, and as always, we are open to suggestions on how to make ScoreFest 2 even better. We had some impressive stats in this tournament, including a total of 420 bomb plants (amounting to 700 explosion deaths) and almost 7,000 kills recorded in over 34+ total hours of gameplay. There were 15 teams, 58 players, and 25 games played in the double elimination bracket, with 3 games needing an additional tie-breaker round.
All players should check out their new participation award over at grifball.net as well as Halo Unity, and we hope to see you all at our next event, NGA GrifPile on Thursday, August 2nd at 9pm Eastern (signups open a day earlier).
The National Grifball Association at Grifball.net invites you to our next BOMB - NGA GrifPile - this Thursday, August 2nd at 9pm Eastern time. Signups will open one day earlier, and close one hour before game time at 8pm.
GrifPile, created by Grifballer Dirtie Birdie, is basically four teams of two in a Battle Royale over flags, using Grifball weapons and settings plus Evade, with a little bit of a Tower Defense twist. Inspired by wanting to make a multi-team Grifball variant, DirtieBirdie decided it’d be a lot more fun to figure out a way to enable the teams to form a fragile alliance with one another, which GrifPile makes happen since when one team is carrying the flag, the game is essentially 3 teams against 1.
As always in the NGA, all players are welcome, regardless of their skill level, history in other leagues, or matchmaking behavior. Be sure to bring a friend though, you must have two players to sign up for this event, and maximum roster size is 4 players.
The Map and Game Type will be posted on Grifball.net when signups open. Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to the winners of last night’s NGA GrifPile BOMB - ICECARDZ and S1lentNdeadly1! For winning, they each received a code for 1600 Microsoft Points - great job guys!
Everybody seemed to have a great time - in fact reaction was so positive we’ll be sure to hold another GrifPile event sometime in the near future. We also received a number of suggestions for how to improve the gametype - if anybody else has feedback let us know.
Thank you all for your participation, we hope you all had fun! Our next event will be another BOMB - NGA’s Battle of the Regions on Saturday, August 11th. Registration for our second season will also be opening in the next few weeks. And finally, keep checking Grifball.net for the latest NGA news as our first season comes to a close.
***Due to the unique setup of this tournament, signups will close 3 hours before the event at 6:00PM Eastern on 8/11
When’s the last time you talked to a hardcore Grifballer without the word ‘connection’ coming up? From host hammering to teleportation, no one can deny that connection factors into the game we all love - especially after a night of a dozen or more host checks in preparation for a league match.
That being said, the National Grifball Association at Grifball.net is holding a round-robin style Vanilla BOMB this Saturday the 11th, but this time we’re going to do things a little differently. First, instead of registering your favorite group of players to form a team, every player will sign up individually on Grifball.net. You’ll be asked to provide a few details about yourself - the state you play from, the position you prefer to play, and whether or not you’ve got the fortitude to take on captain duties.
With this information, we will create teams of four to eight players who are geographically close to each other. Then we’ll break into three groups - East Coast, Central, and West Coast - and battle it out among the different teams for regional supremacy. The winners from each group will then advance to face the other winning teams, showing once and for all who has the biggest and best fiber line running to their 360s.
The gametype will be the league default (NGA Vanilla V1) and the map will be NGA Fury (Rage More Nerd’s ScoreFest map, tweaked to work with Vanilla), but captains can always mutually agree to play with different settings. Signups will be closing on Saturday at 6pm Eastern (3pm Pacific), and we will begin playing three hours later at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific).
Hope to see you all there! Grifball tryhards, novices, and everyone in between is invited to attend.
Grifball.net - [Forum Discussion](http://www.grifball.net/nga-events/2012/7/bomb-battle-of-the-regions-(sat-aug- 11th).aspx) - Player Registration
On Saturday, August 11, 35 players came together from all over the United States to battle it out and determine a regional Grifball champion. Check out the distribution on our Player Map. The teams were broken up into groups based on the geographical proximity of those who signed up, and six teams were created: Manifest Destiny, a group of West Coast players extending as far east as the Rocky Mountains; Points North, a team centered around the north Midwest; Greater Lakes, where players hailed from both sides of the Great Lakes; Old Man River, which consisted of players close to the Mississippi River from the Gulf Coast to the central Midwest; Colonial America, with players spanning the Eastern states from New York to North Carolina; and Cradle of Liberty, made up of players from New England and New York state.
While some teams consisted of players who were already friends or teammates, other groupings threw players together from all corners of the Grifball world. The event featured seasoned league pros and champions, newer league players, and some players stepping into competitive Grifball for the first time. In the six team Round Robin, 14 of 15 games were played over the course of four hours, with one game sacrificed to make up week league obligations. With player registration open for several days, teams consisted of 6-7 players which became frustrating to some players when nearly everyone who signed up showed up on time and ready to play – and we thank you all for it! That’s a good problem to have, and if the current amazing attendance record continues, expect to see similar tournaments set up in the future with smaller squads and more playing time.
At the end of the night, a champion was crowned, and Colonial America, captained by OVERweightGOAT and made up of KidQuantum, Ezy08, Packfan010, ghetto KoolAid9, and ColonialPie took home the regional title for the night. But other competitors were close on their heels, especially when the missed game is considered. New friendships were forged over the course of the night as well, which feels like a victory for all of us. A big thank you to NetsPride15 for suggesting the event to the NGA, and thank you to all players who participated, as well as the team captains who helped get everyone some playing time and made sure the event was enjoyed by all. Awards have been given out on Grifball.net as well as HaloUNITY, so be sure to check your player pages for new swag. And if you have any game film from last night you’d like to share and have uploaded to our YouTube channel, put the film in your file share with the tag NGA, and let RageMoreNerd know you’ve got a film for him.
As our league players know, the NGA Summer League 2012 Playoffs are under way, and we now have several streamers you can catch on Grifball.net throughout the bracket. If you are interested in getting your game streamed or your stream featured, please let us know, we’d love to get you on the site if possible.
Our next event will be the already infamous Stat Padding Derby on August 22 – more details coming soon. Also, check in with us over the next few weeks for signups for the final Halo Reach Grifball season as well as several planned community mixers and other fun happenings. Finally, if you’ve got a great Grifball event idea, please let us know – we’d love to help make it happen.
Stat padding. Love it, hate it, condemn it or celebrate it, it’s still a huge part of our collective Grifball experience.
Tonight at 10 Eastern, the NGA is going to be holding the first ever Stat Padding Derby, where the team with the most kills for the night wins. The only reason there is a bomb is for those who prefer it as a tool of destruction! Team sign ups are now open at grifball.net. Roster size is 4-8 players and the games will be matchmaking settings (in a custom game, don’t you all freak out there, players from other leagues.) Here’s a fileshare link to the map and the gametype. Registrations will close at 9:45. Feel free to poke around in the forums on our site if you’re looking to make a team.
So, to all the true Stat Padders out there, come show us what you’ve got. For the haters, why not come take the bull[true] by the horns and maybe walk away with a little understanding. You probably have a second stat padding account anyways! And to those who may have taken objection to this event, thanks for the extra press. We’ve decided to repay the favor and post signups merely a few hours before the event instead of a few days so your forums are easier to guard. Finally, let’s all try to take a step back, turn quickly and swing…or maybe just have a good time and meet some new people. We’re all about celebrating the game of Grifball, and like it or not, this is a part of it. Hope to see you there!
When eight or more teams sign up, an 800MSP prize is up for grabs for the winners!
The NGA is pleased to announce that signups are open for the final season of league grifball in Reach. Register your team (minimum 4 players, maximum 8) at Grifball.net from now until Saturday 9/8 at 11:59 Pacific.
The regular season will consist of four weeks with two scheduled matches a week. Eight teams will make the playoffs after a make-up week, and the championship game will be held the first weekend in November, during a grifball extravaganza comprised of fun events as we await Halo 4’s release. All players who compete in their games during the scheduled times will be eligible for a weekly prize.
In the meantime, we have an incredible lineup of events planned during the season including community mixers, grifball events, and general Halo/XBL events as well. Here’s the lineup for the next few weeks:
Monday 9/3 - 9PM Eastern - Admin Hunting! Our admin team will be streaming (while hiding offline, no friends with benefits here) and running matchmaking for several hours straight, sort of like Bungie Day from 2011. We won’t send you a steak, but anyone who finds us in matchmaking and mentions the Admin Hunt will get a sweet HaloUnity award. Any team who manages to beat us will also get a second, significantly awesomer award.
Sunday 9/9 - League play begins
Tuesday 9/11 - 9PM Eastern NGA/HaloUnity mixer. No signups necessary, just message one of the players listed on our Unity Event post to get into the action. Depending on the number of interested people, we’ll either play Matchmaking, grifball specific customs, or random customs. For sure though, we’ll have some fun!
Friday 9/14 10PM Eastern - BOMB: Random Reach Custom Night. We’ll be getting the NGA’s finest together for some outright shenanigans. We have a lot of fun grifball related custom games, and as the night wears on, we’ll just focus on having a good time. Expect to see a lot of colorful personalities in this event!
Sunday 9/16 - Week two of league play begins.
Thursday 9/20 8PM Eastern - NGA/The Real Forums mixer. Signups for this event will be available on both sites (at Grifball.net or on TheRealForums.com) by means of replying to the relevant forum topic. Again, just looking to have a fun night, meet new people, and spread the good word of Grifball. For this event, participants should be a member of either (or both) sites.
We’ll post the rest of our events in the coming days. We’ll see a return of favorites like Grifpile and Scorefest, as well as some new ideas and traditional events. Let’s send Reach to the bargain bin with a lot of grifball love and some good times!
Hope to see you all there, and in the meantime, as always, happy hammering
The sun is setting earlier, and it’s getting colder - summer is definitely gone. The NGA has you covered though, with plenty of reasons to stay inside. Here’s what we have for the rest of September:
Saturday, September 22 - Today - The Impromptu Halo 3 BOMB 4PM Eastern
With the AGLA running its Halo 3 Grifball League as well as bouts of Halo nostalgia popping up all over the place in anticipation of Halo 4, we decided to throw together a quick BOMB to celebrate the beginnings of Grifball.
Signups are already open at grifball.net - and will remain open until a half hour before the event (3:30PM Eastern tomorrow.) Instead of thinking about a team to sign up, we should probably mention that for this event, we’ll be doing individual signups and generating random teams. The point of this event is more fun than fierce competition; if we have a good turnout or hear of other interest, we’ll definitely organize another Halo 3 BOMB in the weeks before Halo 4 releases. We’ll even give you notice next time!
Wednesday, September 26 - BOMB: Grifpile:Extreme 9PM Eastern
If you’ve played Grifpile with us already, you know you love it. On a whim, we tried out a 4v4v4v4 version of Grifpile, and the results were, well, extreme. Now we’re bringing it to the community to see what you think!
Signups for this event will open a few days earlier, and will be FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED for the first 16 people to sign up in our forums. We will also take signups for four alternates. With enough interest, we’d be more than happy to try and get a second lobby going. Once signups are full, we’ll randomly select four captains to participate in a mini-draft to determine teams.
Saturday, September 29 - HaloTracker Staff Showdown 5PM Eastern
Cheer on your admin team as they go head to head with staff from HaloTracker. Details are still being worked out, but as long as it is half grifball, we promise to give them a run for their money!
In other news, we’re almost done with the second week of our second season. Shadow has been working tirelessly on our new stats setup, which when done will very quickly clean up the backlog of games to be entered. We promise all stats will be current soon! Thanks for your patience.
Season 1 playoffs are finally finishing up as well. We’ve got two series left in the bracket, and they should be great matchups. Catch the streaming action on our new official Twitch.tv channel, NGAGrifball (twitch.tv/ngagrifball) and follow us on Twitch or on Twitter (twitter.com/grifballnet) for instant stream updates!
That should do it for now. We’ll be back soon with more info on our HaloTracker playdate as well as more upcoming fun. As always, please stop by grifball.net with any suggestions, ideas, or other comments. We’re also seeking writers with original ideas to be featured on the site - talk to SquirrelBurrito if you are interested.
Well we have a surprise for you all this evening (for those who didn’t notice it on the Calendar)…
Tonight at 9:30pm Eastern we’ll be holding another NGA BOMB - ScoreFest 2! It’s the same game from last time (the closest thing we have to Halo 4 Grifball in Reach), but this time with teams of 4, and the health packs have been removed - both suggestions from those of you who played last time around. Signups close 10 minutes before we play at 9:20pm Eastern.

Also, this Thursday at 9pm we’ll finally be playing the postponed BOMB from last week - GrifPile Extreme. For those of you who will not be able to attend, you should click on the Signup link and remove yourself from the list. For those who would like to attend, you should sign up and we’ll do the best we can to fit you in!

At long last, after a grueling 5 weeks and an immense double elimination playoff bracket, the NGA’s first season will come to its conclusion tomorrow (Friday) at 9pm Eastern as we stream our very first league Championship LIVE. On the Fence will take on Blunts of Fury one last time in what should be a truly epic battle!
After meeting in the top bracket, On the Fence came out on top, but Blunts of Fury refused to throw in the towel and has returned as strong as ever from the lower bracket. Having already won one series of Finals games, Blunts of Fury will be bringing everything they’ve got to complete the upset over On the Fence. However, On the Fence is a strong team itself, and with pride on the line, anything could happen. We hope you’ll all be able to join us, as we’ll also be making some special league announcements during the stream.
Visit Grifball.net tomorrow at 9pm for a link to the stream! You can also follow our Twitter account (twitter.com/grifballnet) or our official Twitch stream (twitch.tv/ngagrifball) for instant updates and the most access to all the best the grifball community has to offer.
Join us at the NGA over at Grifball.net today (Wednesday, October 24th) at 9pm Eastern for our next-to-last Vanilla BOMB before Halo 4’s release! This will be a regular tournament playing NGA Vanilla on NGA Fury, game statistics will count towards your player career record. Registration is for teams of four to eight, and signups close at 9pm - games will begin just afterwards.
All players participating in this event will automatically be entered into a raffle over at HaloUNITY to win a free copy of Halo 4! We will also randomly select one participant who will get a second entry into the raffle. You can also raise your odds of winning by playing in multiple events.
Join us over at the National Grifball Association tomorrow (Saturday, November 3rd at 8pm Eastern) for our FINAL Reach BOMB while it’s still king. We’ll be playing NGA Vanilla V1 on NGA Fury, but this time it will be a draft tournament! Players will register individually, and then at 8pm the Admins will announce which players will be Captains, and those players will be invited to a party chat (or we may use the website chatbox) to hold a draft to choose players for each team. Let’s send Reach off in style - how could we end with anything else? Goodbye, Reach. We will miss you!
This will be a DRAFT tournament - players register individually. Game statistics will count towards your player career record. All participants will receive an award on their player page, winners will receive even more :). Registration is open over at Grifball.net until 8pm Saturday - the draft will begin just afterwards and games should begin between 8:30 and 9pm ET.
LIVE TONIGHT at 9pm Eastern the National Grifball Association at Grifball.net will be streaming its Season 2 Championship match where Black List will face off against A Righteous Kill! During the stream, we will be making some important NGA announcements regarding our Halo 4 plans.
Also tomorrow (Monday) from 8pm to 10pm ET we will be running one or more NGA Launch Night Customs lobbies playing Reach Grifball - nothing official or organized here, just some friends having fun before it’s time to go wait in line for Halo 4’s release. Then sometime between 12:30 and 1am Eastern the NGA Launch Night Customs lobbies will resume over on Halo 4! Join us for the first Halo 4 Grifball Customs! No registration required - just message SquirrelBurrito on XBL or let us know in the chatbox on Grifball.net if you’d like an invite.
And finally, Tuesday evening at 9pm Eastern, the NGA will be holding its very first Halo 4 BOMB. Player registration is open now at Grifball.net for the very first Halo 4 Grifball tournament. Players will be assigned to teams.
We hope to see you all there!
The National Grifball Association at Grifball.net would like to announce that Team Registration is now open through Sunday, November 18th at 10pm Eastern for Winter League 2013, our third season overall and the very first season playing league Grifball in Halo 4! To sign up, head over to http://grifball.net/halo-4-league-signup.aspx. Roster size is four to eight players. Play will begin the night after signups close, and each team will play two games on their scheduled day and time each week for five weeks. We’ll then have live-streamed playoffs and finals! All players are welcome regardless of experience or style of play.
Let’s boldly go where Grifball has not gone before…and have a great time! Active players have opportunities to win prizes, and all participating players earn awards displayed on our site as well as HaloUNITY. Don’t miss out on the first season of Halo 4 Grifball! Be sure to check our site often for league details, events, tournaments, and a passionate community. Also keep an eye on our Twitter (@Grifballnet) and Twitch.tv (NGAGrifball) accounts for up to the minute announcements, live Grifball streams, fun, and occasional swag. See you on the court!
Also, we would like to invite you all to join us tomorrow night (Wednesday, November 14th) at 9pm Eastern for our next BOMB. This time we’ll be running an official trial of the proposed NGA Season 3 (WL13) gametype settings and court. Team Registration is open now for teams of four to eight players. Games will begin shortly after signups close at 9pm.
While we’re working on getting divisions ready for season play to start on Sunday, we’d like to quickly announce our first formal BOMB of Halo 4. We’ll be debuting our league settings, and inviting registered teams to come on out and meet the players you’ll be competing against this season. Of course, any team is allowed to sign up, but we thought it would be a great way to size up the competition and get some last minute team practice in.
We hope you can join us tomorrow night! Register for this event at Grifball.net.

So, the world didn’t end and it is the last night of 2012. Sitting around at home? Snowed in? Is the highlight of your New Year’s Eve going to be watching the ball drop? If so, you’ve got a couple of NGA admins saddled with small children who have your back.
Single player registration is now open for the official NGA Start Off 2013 Right! event. If you’ll be around just after midnight (ET), we’ll be here waiting to start lobbies in any Halo game, or if enough people are interested, even run a small tournament. Make sure to let us know what you’re most interested in doing, and we’ll do our best to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time with good company for the first few hours of the new year. We’ll also ring in the new year in the later time zones.
So watch your television marathons, get a couple strong drinks in yourself (if you’re of legal age of course!!), check out the people freezing in Times Square, and then hop online. You know what’s better than watching the ball drop? (especially without -Yoink- Clark, RIP) Pulling out your energy sword and making the ball drop right out of the enemy’s cold, dead, hands.
See you online! And to everyone, all the best for a prosperous, enjoyable, safe and healthy 2013. Oh, and 'ships for everyone!
