I’ve had the opinion that Naomi-010 is an extra Spartan II that Karen Travis pulled out of thin air. Now that I own “The Thursday War”, I’d like to be sure. What do you say universe forum?
Did we have all 33 surviving Spartans named and accounted for before Grasslands came out, or not?
Even if all 33 Spartan IIs are accounted for that doesnt deny 343i from bringing previously unknown Spartans into the canon.
I like to believe that any Spartan II that doesnt fit into the original 33 happens to be one of the “failures” that ONI took in and possibly corrected and now uses
I know in the case of Naomi-010 she is described in “Glasslands” as if she is one of the originals based on her view of Dr.Halsey, so to your question, I dont recall any Naomi-010 being mentioned before but I could be mistaken
As we see more Spartan II’s introduced, I would like to see an expansion on the supposed “Second Class,” with perhaps the cover that while the first class was released to the public, the second class was kept top-secret.

This would be a good explanation.
It would be nice to see 343i put something simple out there to account for the “extras”

I suppose they can make the canon whatever they want too.
That is a good way of looking at it, but it appears they’ve written it as if she was one of the 33.
I’ve looked all over for lists of the 33, and they all seem to be incomplete, so it is possible we didn’t have all the names before.

I agree Karen Traviss wrote Naomi-010 as if she was one of the 33.
I wouldnt put it past ONI to hide away S-IIs for their own projects, so it could make sense in canon for ONI to either take perfectly good S-IIs away from the program or to repair the “failures”
Not all the Spartans have been identified. Dr. Halsey mentions in her Journal that she had lied about all the Spartans except Gray Team being present on Reach which means there could be Spartans all over the place.

There are SPARTANs all over the place.MC floating in deep space on the FORWARD UNTO DAWN with no contact to the UNSC, RED TEAM on the UNSC SPIRIT OF FIRE again with not contact to the UNSC or a slip space core, there is BLUE TEAM with Dr.Halsey, and there are well over a dozen SPARTAN IIIs left with Mendez.

Yes and no. In Halsey’s journal, it is revealed that the Spartans who supposedly died were, in fact, kept in cryo in hopes they could be resuscitated some day. More importantly, it reveals that several were (in fact, Serin Osman was one of these Spartans, but she was “rescued” by ONI). As such, many of the Spartans we’ve seen could have been former “wash-outs”.
It is my believe that Naomi-010 was a “wash-out” who was later resuscitated, and made part of Spartan Team Black (she matches the description of Black-II). Team Black was last seen in 2551, so I believe that they made it back to Human Space sometime just after the Fall of Reach or the Battle of Earth. With so few Spartans, the Team was split, Naomi being deployed with Kilo-5.
