Nanorobots armor theory doubt...

o hai

Today I found this

I had already seen that before but only now it has caught my attention and here’s why…

Wasn’t the official explanation about why the Chief’s armor changed that one about the nanorobots ?

But how could they change the parts that are said to be composed of titanium ?

(please note that the image is official, from the book " Halo Encyclopedia "
http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Encyclopedia-Definitive-Guide-Universe/dp/0756688698/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&qid=1349127490&sr=8-37&keywords=halo )

Can someone clear things out plz ?

If 343i says chief’s armour was changed by NanoBots, then his armour was changed by Nanobots. You can’t argue about lore with the people who are creating the Lore

/thread

The nanobots are stored on board the FUD, if memory serves.

ok sorry :x

Its just their way of cheaply explaining their artistic changes to the chiefs armor.

Not sure if you can talk about this, get banned for 2 days for talking about the possibility of floods in campaign

 1. “Slop is military slang for Nanoreagent Hydrocarbots - a suspension of nanomachines that renders nearly all carbon heavy matter into usable fuel for the UNSC’s ubiquitous internal combustion powerplants.”

This confirms UNSC possess Nanotechnology and had it around the time the Chief’s armor was made.

 1. In Campaign, players take the role of the Master Chief, the living legend of the Covenant War, a SPARTAN-II super-soldier wearing heavily modified GEN1 Mjolnir armor.

This confirms his Armor has been modified.

 1. [I noticed that the Mark VI armor for Multiplayer is not the same armor that the Chief dons in Halo 4. What type of armor is the Chief wearing then? -One One Seven

Very fancy, very custom, very unique “Cortana special” armor.](http://blogs.halo.xbox.com/Headlines/post/2012/09/05/The-Halo-Bulletin-9512.aspx)

This confirms the armor is customized by Cortana

 1. “Nanobots making repairs to Chief’s armor.”

This confirms Chief’s armor interacts with Nanobots

Now put all of this together and you have your answer: Nanobots were used by Cortana to modify the Chief’s armor while he slept in Cryo for 4 years.

Let’s not forget that the old Mark VI armor is in the game as well which means it exists side by side the Chief’s Mark VI which confirms that it’s not entirely artistic interpretation. The old Mark VI still exists because that’s what his looked like before Cortana changed it.

Flood was confirmed out of the campaign a long time ago…

And why wouldn’t he be able to talk about it? We’ve know about the Chief’s armor change, nanotech explanations, and stuff for a long time. It wouldn’t he a leak.

I don’t think Sevsublime is saying that the Chiefs armor hasn’t been changed by nanobots. I think he is just questioning the logic behind this canonical explanation, i.e. How could nanobots change the entire suit?

I think he means that practically speaking, on the face of it, it seems strange that the nano-composite bodysuit could somehow also change the armor plates, the visor, the insets, the visor etc etc etc.

This is assuming that that image correctly portrays the Mk VI, and that the new suit hasn’t somehow retconned that diagram of the components of Mjolnir.

Personally Sevsublime I think the answer is woefully disappointing; bad storytelling.

Some things do not need to be canonically justified. It is upsetting that 343 felt we could not handle an artistic redesign without some half–Yoink- explanation involving nanobots.

I’ve got the greatest theory ever!
It’s just 343’s artistic vision, and since people demanded a reason for the ‘unnecessary’ change they gave you the nanobot answer to argue over.

The change is not just 343’s vision of the armor. Since the game was announced, 343, namely Frankie, continually said that the new look was both artistic and had a canon reason. The game even has classic Mjolnir Mk. VI as one of the armor choices.

More on topic, and to address the OP: It’s my opinion that the nanobots that Cortana used to alter the Chief’s suit are not a standard feature for Mjolnir Mk. VI. Likely, there was a source of nanobots on the FUD that Cortana reprogrammed to fit her needs.

Basically.

QFT

343i didn’t need to explain the aesthetic changes at all. It would have been easier to just say “this is what Mk. VI looks like now”, it happened with Mk. V and various weapons etc. No problem. Instead they gave us an unnecessary BS explanation.

IMO, saying “We changed it to change it” is far more lazy than coming up with a new technological advancement employed by the UNSC.

I find it strange some people are still questioning if the Chief has nanobots at all, since Halo is pretty much the spiritual successor of Marathon and the Gravemind states in Halo 2 that Master Chief is “nerve and machine”.
