So I’ve got the marathon nameplate as of right now and I’m guessing I can no longer change it? Just searching for confirmation. not that I mind having it I never see people with that nameplate.
I’m looking for related answers as well. I’ve read that they are locked because 343 took over and they didn’t take the nameplate system from Bungie. But they were old posts and none were confirmed. Just speculation. I’ll let you know when I find out for sure.

Unfortunately, the nameplate feature became locked and removed after the final Halo statistic transfer from Bungie to 343i in July. So whatever you have now, you’re stuck with forever!

Unfortunately, 343i’s confirmed that nameplates won’t be making a return in Halo 4. Such a bummer.

I’m stuck with my lovely Halo 2 nameplate forever!!! 
Gotta say I’m pretty glad to have mine. It’s the DMR nameplate you get for signing up for Bungie Pro, which doesn’t even exist anymore. I barely see ANYONE with it so I’m proud to be unique 
It’s almost as rare as the Assault Rifle, which you unlocked for playing the beta. I was gonna go with the star but decided against it since everyone spammed it when they unlocked it on Bungie Day. I’m happy I made that choice now lol.
