So I’ve been on Reach Matchmaking since April of 2011, I’m almost a Nova, and I’ve yet to get myself a Killionaire. I play BTB and Living Dead by far the most, and you’d think I would have got it by now because of that. Hell, I’ve even gotten an Unfrig (although it was me just Bashee -Yoink!- the whole time). But still no naires. My biggest multi-kill I ever got was a Killpocalypse, and that was just by spawn killing on Grifball, which doesn’t count at all.
I don’t think I’m a bad player, but I have horrible luck. Whether it be lag, a stupid mistake or running out of ammo, I always come up short.
Am I just a predestined noob? Halo’s biggest scrub? I need tips, ladies and gents! I need to see the light!
Hey Vista del Sol,
I have been playing Halo: Reach since its release back in 2010, and have been playing multiplayer since Feb. 2012. I try to play regularly, maybe every few days or so, and have reached the rank of eclipse.
You think that just because you haven’t got a killionaire yet makes you a noob? Not at all. Outside of grifball, I have never gotten a multikill over 7 and have never gotten an unfrigginbelievable medal! What makes you valuable as a player is your skill, strategy, and k/d/a ratio (I hate k/d). Just because you haven’t gotten one of the game’s hardest medals doesn’t make you any less of a player.
Now about your bad luck. I have noticed that you, the player, make your own luck. Much like driving a car, predicting the situation and putting yourself in a good position will pay dividends. If you are in the right place, more often than not you will surprise the other player and will get the kill. Note however that camping may put you in a good position for one kill, but the player you just killed will probably go hunting for you.
Running out of ammo or not reloading at correct times can be an easy fix. Make sure you run over a dead player’s body to collect any ammo they dropped. Try to reload after every kill or multikill. If you have trouble with ammo conservation, try to limit your bullets to kills you can get, not kills you have little to no chance of getting (ie. cross-mapping with a magnum).
Lag is something you cannot help: it happens to all of us. I recommend going on your xbox when network traffic is low at your house (if you are lagging). If someone else is lagging, select good connection as a priority in the matchmaking lobby–it helps!
Lastly, my final tip: don’t overthink it. Try to play fluidly and naturally:
- Don’t get caught up in revenge-killing an awesome player.
- Don’t think about killing someone while you are shooting them, you will mess up your timing.
- Go with a friend–double-teaming works surprisingly well.
- Relax–this is supposed to be fun, isn’t it?
These are my tips–don’t worry you are not destined to be a noob. There are very elite players on Reach who know how to adapt and react to every situation. Use these tips and you will improve in no time!
Hope this helps!
Most of my Killionaires are in Grifball. Though I think I may have gotten 1 Killpocalypse in Big Team Battle using the Scorpion…
The medals that elude me are Inconceivable and Un-Friggin’-Believable; I’ve gotten as high as Invincible in BTB, but I always get killed before I can go any further. That, or the match ends.
