First off, being a religiously huge halo fan, and been following Halo for years and years, I was excited and peed a little when I read May 16th’s news and saw the official Halo 5 poster. Then I noticed details, and began to speculate. This is my theory…
The spartan’s reflection (or counterpart, what have you) in the poster is John 117. Often times, posters and illustrations like this depict a symbolism, eluding to something underneath the skin of the poster.
If you remember the introductory CG piece in Halo 4’s opening scene, Dr. Catherine Halsey appears to be in the bowels of an ONI facility being interrogated by an ONI operative about her thought process, and morals on the spartans altogether. He proceeds to discuss the Master chief, lying to Halsey about his supposed death. The man, as portrayed on screen, is kept in the shadows the entire time.
I have concluded, based on the mystery man’s interests and cynical approach to John, that he could possibly be the mystery spartan shown in Halo 5’s latest poster. The spartan has an ONI decal on hist left breast plate, and given Halo 4’s events, and the man’s ideas on the Master Chief, I believe the black spartan may possibly be the mystery man in Halo 4’s opening.
At present, ONI is an infiltrated and corrupt organization headed by a woman of twisted ideals, and I would not be surprised, given the affairs presently occurring in the books, and by Halo 4’s ending, given what chief potentially is and/or knows, courtesy of the Librarian, it is a possibility chief is in a position to where he is being hunted, awol, blacklisted, etc. with a hit ordered on him for his termination by Serin Osmin. Given chief’s predicament, and who he is as a human being, this is not surprising in the current political state of affairs.
Why is the Master Chief cloaked? Has he set out on a personal journey in seeking some way to regain Cortana in some miraculous fashion? Has he set out to find Halsey? Could the Librarian have given him a mission? Or has an assassin been dispatched to hunt and strike him down, robbing his place of the ‘hero’, subsequently “replacing him”, and thus has left as not to risk the safety of those close to him? Again, please note that all of this is my own speculation and theory behind what little we have been shown, and connections I feel I may have established between Halo 4, and Halo 5. In no way is this validated or true for sure. It is only my proposal.
What do you think?
