So I was browsing Youtube the other day, and I stumbled upon Rocket Sloth’s ODST video. It reminded me of how Halo always had that feeling that something else was going besides the main story. Even the multiplayer maps evoked that mysterious feeling.
With Halo Infinite being open world, I really hope to see something like that again. Zeta Halo should be full of eerie Forerunner secrets. The fact that ODST’s alien glyphs mystery still hasn’t been solved in a time
where video game secrets are usually discovered day one and immediately exposed on the internet, is beyond impressive.
Anyway, with Joseph Staten being Campaign lead, I’m pretty hopeful that he’s cooking up some cryptic storytelling. He’s the man behind most of Halo’s secrets after all.
I think mystery is a cool thing to have, though personally I think keeping things mysterious has a shelf life eventually. For example, the Forerunners. Plenty of folks like what 343 has done with them, but others don’t because the mystery surrounding them has been diminished. Thing is for me at least, I feel like keeping them as some mysterious race with advanced tech that vanished (a major sci-fi trope) was boring. So fleshing them out and contextualizing their rise and fall was a breath of fresh air.
I hope Infinite offers new mysteries, but I’d implore the community to not insist any and all mysteries stay unsolved forever.
I think that there should be mysteries that shouldn’t have answers. I like hearing people theories on what things are and I hope that returns to Infinite.

This is well said. Things like “The Meddlers” from the CEA terminal have never gotten confirmation or even a direct mention in any other media. People still argue about them to this day. We need more of that. We need mysteries that really don’t have an answer. That spawn fanart and fanfics. As much as I love pouring over lore details to answer every question I come across, I find the most joy in speculating about an unsolved mystery. The best questions proposed on this forum involve something that has gotten no clear answer, as opposed to those that can be answered with a simple hyperlink to Halopedia.
