I am definitely not “jumping” to that conclusion, one is just drawn to that conclusion.
I would love to hear a more probable explanation for this icon, but until now no one here could give such an explanation.
So frankly I am quite amazed that obviously most people here do not think that this is a leaked “new” (and therefore most likely Halo 4) achievement icon, but can not provide any logical explanation why this icon was sighted.
Some people here say that it is “just a glitch”, which makes no sense at all, because a glitch won’t design a completely new achievement icon. A glitch could cause a wrong already known icon to display instead of the right already known icon, a glitch could cause an error so that no icon shows up at all, but a glitch will not design an icon that no one has ever seen before.
So it was most likely designed by someone at 343i / the Waypoint team. So why would they do that?
The other explanation I read here is: “They are going to update Waypoint once more, before Halo 4 comes out.”
Well, that is a good idea, given the fact that both, Halo Waypoint here on the homepage and Halo Waypoint at XBOX360 are really buggy. We all know the problems here on the page (not showing games you played) and on Waypoint for the XBOX360 (not showing a whole bunch of icons for the achievements).
So do you think the Waypoint team says: “Hey, we have nothing to do with our time, let’s redesign all 297 icons for the halo achievements at waypoint”. Highly unlikely. They really have other stuff to work on, without wasting their time on completely unnecessary work. Why should they even redesign just a part of those icons?
That being said, I have to stick with the conclusion, that this is an icon which was designed for a new set of achievements. And which game could those achievements be for? Well all I know about is Halo 4.
It could of course also be for a new set of achievements for Halo Reach. But that would also be a leak then.
